Many wide receivers from Week 3 boomed, saving your fantasy week, or busted, costing you the week. However, Week 4 could be a favorable spot for a few players to bounce back after good starts to the year, to then disappoint last week.
While there might not be another Jauan Jennings after a 46.5 performance in full PPR, there could be a few sleepers who could take advantage of their matchups. Here are a few names to watch at the wide receiver position this week.
Wide Receiver Must Start Week 4
Here are a few of the players that we are leaning on heavily in this game. These players are in a good spot to put together a solid performance and have a favorable matchup.
Diontae Johnson, Carolina Panthers
Andy Dalton’s revenge game against his former team, the Cincinnati Bengals, lines up well for Diontae Johnson to have a nice game again. The veteran PPR machine had an 8-catch, 122-yard, and 1-touchdown game against the Las Vegas Raiders last week with Bryce Young benched. The Bengals gave up huge plays to the Commanders on Monday Night Football in Week 3, so another offensive showing for the Carolina Panthers is possible.
Terry McLaurin, Washington Commanders
Finally, rookie Jayden Daniels was able to hit big time with veteran Terry McLaurin in Week 3 after a 4 catch, 100-yard, and 1 touchdown night last week. Against the Arizona Cardinals, which is projecting to be a shootout, I would go back to the well with Scary Terry despite his slow start.
Wide Receiver Must Sit Week 4
On the flip side of things, here are a few of the players we are sitting in this one.
Drake London, Atlanta Falcons
Although he’s had a touchdown and 6 receptions in back-to-back games, Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Drake London will face a tough New Orleans Saints secondary, featuring Marshon Lattimore. There are other receivers in his range that may have higher upside with easier matchups.
Jaylen Waddle, Miami Dolphins
Without Tua Tagovailoa, even with their matchup against the Tennessee Titans, all the Miami Dolphins pass catchers take a huge hit. That includes Tyreek Hill, who still is a start, and Jaylen Waddle, who is not the focal point in the offense with a backup quarterback. With Skylar Thompson likely out due to injury, it might be Tyler Huntley stepping in for Week 4.
Lock of the Week
Marvin Harrison Jr., Arizona Cardinals
Going against the Washington Commanders, who boast the worst defense against wide receivers, and potentially no Trey McBride due to his concussion, this is a smash spot for Arizona Cardinals rookie Marvin Harrison Jr. He should replicate his connection with Kyler Murray from Week 2 or possibly surpass his 4 catch, 130 yards, and 2 touchdown game against the Los Angeles Rams.
Fade of the Week
Garrett Wilson, Denver Broncos
With Garrett Wilson as a late first or early second-round pick in fantasy drafts, he’s been a disappointment. This matchup isn’t any easier for the New York Jets wide receiver, likely matching up with Patrick Surtain II, who has been locked down. Look for Aaron Rodgers to target his other pass catchers like Allen Lazard or Tyler Conklin instead.
Sleeper of the Week
George Pickens, Pittsburgh Steelers
Even in an Arthur Smith offense, Justin Fields has been not running as much, limiting turnovers. This makes their drives last longer and against a suspect Indianapolis Colts defense, that could be a benefit for both Najee Harris and George Pickens. The Colts are ranked 29th against wide receivers, so this could be Picken’s breakout game, as he’s been close to a huge stat line for multiple weeks in a row.
Conclusion
The fantasy hero from Week 3 Jauan Jennings from the San Francisco 49ers didn’t make the cut as a start or sleeper so temper expectations from him even with last week’s heroics. However, with Christian Gonzalez likely covering Brandon Aiyuk, look for Jennings to have a decent enough game to consider as a wide receiver 2/3 or flex option.
Many wide receivers like Jameson Williams (Detroit Lions), Rashid Shaheed (New Orleans Saints), and Jaxon Smith-Njigba (Seattle Seahawks) led down fantasy managers last week after great starts to the season. Look for one or two or even all three to have bounceback weeks as boom-bust options.
