Wide Receiver Start/Sits for Week 3

Malik Nabers wide receiver

With more information about the wide receivers for fantasy football, we have major risers and fallers with their roles in the offenses after Week 2. For Week 3, there are plenty of high-caliber rookies and second-year players to start, while some veterans will have to ride the bench unless they show out this weekend. Due to many injuries at the position, after the top 15, it does get into more flex consideration so try to start players in this range instead.

Here are a few of the players that we are leaning on heavily this week. These players are in a good spot to put together a solid performance and have a favorable matchup. Week 1 was more accurate for wide receiver starts and sits than Week 2, as the Seattle Seahawks duo went off last week.

Rashee Rice, Kansas City Chiefs

Rashee Rice is the wide receiver 1 for the Kansas City Chiefs and can get there in fantasy on touchdowns as well. Week 1 was about the targets but in Week 2, he finished with 5 catches for 75 yards and a touchdown out of the slot. The mid-round value pick in fantasy drafts will go against the Atlanta Falcons, as he should be a top-10 wide receiver moving forward.

Marvin Harrison Jr., Arizona Cardinals

After a poor performance in Week 1, the rookie wide receiver showed out in Week 2 with a monster showing. Marvin Harrison Jr. had 4 catches for 130 yards and 2 touchdowns for the Arizona Cardinals after being a no-show basically in Week 1. With where you picked him at the end of the first or early second round in fantasy drafts, he is a must-start with his ceiling as a top-5 wide receiver every week.

Malik Nabers, New York Giants

Another rookie wide receiver, Malik Nabers had an unreal Week 2, with 18 targets and an absurd target share as a feature weapon on the New York Giants. He caught 10 of those for 127 yards and a touchdown, as the mid-round fantasy pick will be a steal even in a poor offense. Nabers should be a must-start top-15 wide receiver weekly regardless of matchup since they focus on getting him the ball.

Wide Receiver Must Sit for Week 3

On the flip side of things, here are a few of the players we are sitting in this one.

Michael Pittman, Indianapolis Colts

Unfortunately with Anthony Richardson, we have not seen his connection with Michael Pittman Jr. come to fruition. 7 catches for 52 yards in the last two games for the top option for the Indianapolis Colts is not enough to trust in the starting lineup. Pittman is more of a sit for me moving forward.

He is also in an offense that focuses on the run and has other targets that are suffering at times due to Richardson’s inaccuracy in the short and intermediate. The one positive is his downfield throws but unfortunately, Pittman is not used in that role. He is still seeing 7 and 8 targets so the Colts receiver could have a bounce-back week soon as a top-30 option at least.

Amari Cooper, Cleveland Browns

Amari Cooper has not been himself compared to previous seasons, as he has not been featured in the Cleveland Browns’ offense like before and is not taking advantage of opportunities. With massive drops from Deshaun Watson, his inaccuracy is certainly not helping the situation for the veteran.

He is a sit after a pedestrian 5 catches for 27 yards in a pass-heavy offense the last two weeks. Cooper has had 8 and 9 targets, so hope is not lost for him to be a a top-30 option at the very least.

Terry McLaurin, Washington Commanders

The Washington Commanders’ offense has been more run-heavy with rookie Jayden Daniels, not risking potential turnovers as they get their first win in Week 2. We have not seen any Terry McLaurin deep shots like we would envision in a Kliff Kingsbury offense, so the veteran is a sit till he has a boom game.

McLaurin had 6 catches with 8 targets and just had 22 yards this past week. Week 1 was worse, with 2 catches in 4 targets for 17 yards. The offense is mostly screens, so it is unclear how long they can keep this up with a conservative passing attack. He is ranked lower the rest of the season compared to Pittman and Cooper for sure till we see a passing volume change.
