MUST Add Waiver Wire Running Backs in Week 2

waiver wire

Hitting home runs on running backs in the waiver wire is one of the most important things when it comes to winning championships. The running back position is extremely volatile and there will be plenty of options on the waiver wire throughout the season.

We saw it just last season with Kyren Williams who exploded in 2023 and provided top 5 running back value from the waiver wire.

Do not waste waiver wire spots on other positions as it is extremely important to secure one of these running backs who could alter the shape of your season.

Let’s take a look at the best running back waiver wire adds heading into week two.

Must Add Waiver Wire Running Backs

Jaylen Wright – Miami Dolphins

Both De’Von Achane and Raheem Mostert got banged up in week 1 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Mostert is suffering from a chest injury, and Achane tweaked his hamstring.

Jaylen Wright is a rookie running back who was drafted in round four out of Tennessee. Wright fits the typical Mike McDaniel running back profile. Wright is a speedster and has home-run ability on any given run.

Jaylen Wright is available in 78% of fantasy football leagues according to ESPN. He is a great bench stash for the rest of the season as Achane and Mostert are quite injury prone. If neither are available in week two, Wright will have flex value.

Jordan Mason – San Francisco 49ers

The recent injury news surrounding Christian McCaffrey and his calf/Achilles gives rise to Jordan Mason. Backup running back Elijah Mitchell picked up a season-ending injury in training camp and vaulted Mason into the RB2 role.

If McCaffrey goes down for any period of time, Mason will instantly be a viable option off the bench. Calf and Achilles injuries tend to linger, and I am not convinced McCaffrey will be available week in and week out.

Mason stepped in last season in week five versus the Dallas Cowboys. Mason had 10 carries for 69 yards and a touchdown in that game. He is currently available in 76% of fantasy leagues according to ESPN.

Final Thoughts

Both of these backs could provide massive returns on investments from the waiver wire. The Dolphins and 49ers are two of the most explosive offenses in the NFL.

If you can acquire a backup running back whos starter is dealing with an injury, then pull the trigger. These guys have league-winning upside if they become the lone starting back in their respective cities.

If I had to pick up one of the two, I would take Jordan Mason. Simply put, Wright has two guys in front of him on the depth chart, and Jordan Mason has 1.
