The New England Patriots travel to London, England to take on the Jacksonville Jaguars, a game in which both teams are trying to move in the right direction. Both 1-5 teams come into this matchup needing a win, as the Pats lost in New England last week to the Houston Texans. The Jags lost in London to the Chicago Bears in Week 6. The Patriots have found new life with rookie QB Drake Maye and look to grow with Maye at the helm. The Jags have been struggling but have some bright spots on their team.
New England Patriots vs Jacksonville Jaguars Start ‘Ems
Here are a few players we are leaning on in this game. These players are in a good spot to produce a solid performance and have a favorable matchup.
Tank Bigsby, Running Back, Jaguars
Tank Bigsby is the RB2 on the depth chart, but due to injury, he has seen a considerable increase in reps. Last week against the Bears, Bigsby did not see much action. The two weeks prior, Bigsby combined for 119 yards and two scores. The Patriots do not have the same defense they used to so Bigsby could be a good start this week.
Brian Thomas Jr., Wide Receiver, Jaguars
Brian Thomas Jr. is having a great season so far and looks to continue that this week against the Patriots. Thomas is the WR13 and has scored 20+ in two of his last three games. As the season has progressed, Thomas has seen more and more targets. Against a bottom-third passing defense with the Patriots, start Thomas.
New England Patriots vs Jacksonville Jaguars Sit ‘Ems
On the flip side of things, here are a few of the players we are sitting in this one.
Travis Etienne Jr., Running Back, Jaguars
Travis Etienne Jr. is not having the year fantasy owners would have liked. He ranks as the RB33, and in the last two games has only seen a combined nine rushes due to a hamstring injury. Tank Bigsby has proven he is a capable back and will see the majority of reps. Sit Etienne this week.
Jaguars Defense
The Jaguars defense is the reason the team is 1-5. In total yards per game, they rank 31st and in passing yards per game they rank dead last. With Drake Maye showing he could move the ball last week, Maye will prey on this weak Jaguars defense that you should not start this week.
Total Apex Lock of the Game
Drake Maye, Quarterback, Patriots
The rookie finally got the start and made the most of it. In Maye’s only start, he threw for 243 passing yards, 3 touchdowns, and just under 25 fantasy points. Maye threw 2 interceptions and had a fumble, so that is cause for concern for the future. This week against the worst passing defense in the league, look for Maye to go crazy.
Total Apex Fade of the Game
Jacoby Brissett, Quarterback, Patriots
Brissett started the first five games for the Patriots, and though he was not awful, he was just not playing to the team’s liking. Maye has been named the starter, but if Maye plays poorly, Brissett could come back into the light. That being said Drake Maye should have no problems this week, and Brissett should not leave the bench.
Conclusion
Both the Patriots and Jaguars should have better weeks on offense than they have thus far this season. Drake Maye should be able to move the ball easily, and Trevor Lawrence should also be able to find his wide receivers. Both teams have injuries to their starting running backs, and the backups should see an increase in reps. This is a week for both teams to work on themselves, and try to get moving in the right direction. Should be a close game, but I like Drake Maye and the Patriots in this one.
