New York Yankees at Cleveland Guardians DFS Start’em, Sit’em| October 18, 2024

Game three of this series will go down as possibly the best game of the 2024 postseason. It looked like the New York Yankees were going to go up 3-0 and put the Guardians to sleep. But that did not happen and now we have a series that is a lot more watchable than the National League Championship Series. It seems like both teams offensively might have been unlocked as starting pitching has not been reliable in this series. Can the Yankees get back the momentum or can the Guardians make this a series that will be remembered forever?

New York Yankees OF Alex Verdugo($5,000 on DraftKings)

The New York Yankees outfielder has been one of the most underrated aspects of their postseason run so far. Verdugo has had a hit in all three games of this series with two of the hits being for extra bases. Verdugo hits ninth which means he gets the least amount of at-bats on your team and when you pick a DFS lineup, you want the most opportunities to get fantasy points.

Williams did not have a great season for the Guardians which means Verdugo could be in line to continue his excellent postseason. Even with the limited at-bats, at $5,000, this is easily the best value pick by far in this game. Even at a grand more expensive, this would be an easy start but with an extremely cheap DraftKings value, you should be running to bank with Verdugo in your lineup.

Cleveland Guardians 1B Josh Naylor($7,000 on DraftKings)

It could be time for Josh Naylor to have his postseason moment. Naylor has been one of the clutches hitters over the last five years for the Guardians. Naylor usually has a signature moment most postseasons and the team certainly did last night. Naylor just missed a ball in the 8th inning which would have given the Guardians the lead and win earlier than extra innings.

Luis Gil is starting for the New York Yankees and this is a player who had a great start but slowly fell off as the season went along. The Guardians will be looking to ambush the rookie in this important game four and the player that could definitely take him yard his Cleveland’s first baseman.

New York Yankees C Austin Wells($6,000 on DraftKings)

Wells was having a surprising impact on the Yankees in the regular season which even got him hitting cleanup in one of the most stacked lineups in the game of baseball. But the playoffs have been the polar opposite as it has been a beyond dreadful October for the New York Yankees backstop. Wells hasn’t had a hit in the last five games and DraftKings still holds him at a value of $6,000.

This might be a good risk to take if Wells was evaluated under $6,000 but with the value he has, this is not the player to put your money on at the moment. Wells has been moved down the lineup and now manager Aaron Boone is not afraid to take him out of a game in a pinch-hit situation. All of those signs lean into a sit.

Cleveland Guardians 2B Andres Gimenez($6,200 on DraftKings)

The Guardians’ second baseman has been one of the more reliable players for this franchise over the last couple of seasons. The defense he plays is exquisite and he is a great contact hitter in an era where most of the players are swinging for the fences. In this series, Gimenez is two for 10 with one run batted in.

Due to him being a low-volume strikeout hitter, that must mean that he is a good risk to take to start in DFS. But in game four, this is a player who can afford to not be in your lineup. Gimenez is a single machine but that leads to not enough fantasy production. With the matchup against Gil who is a strikeout player, this seems like a temporary sit just for this game.
