These two franchises are linked for a lot of reasons. Each of the team’s superstars left the team not on the best terms. Clippers star James Harden asked for a trade out of Philadelphia in a public way. While Philadelphia 76ers star Paul George wasn’t given the money he wanted and then quickly pivoted to join the city of brotherly love. As a team, both of these franchises have had such high expectations for a decade but neither team has even gotten to an NBA Finals. That leads to two teams in desperation heading into the 2024-25 season.
Philadelphia 76ers at Los Angeles Clippers DFS Start’em
Philadelphia 76ers PG Kyle Lowry ($5,600 on DraftKings)
The feisty 76ers veteran has seemed like a perfect. Not only is Lowry from Philadelphia, but he played at Villanova and won a NBA Championship with head coach Nick Nurse. Since his addition last season, the 76ers have been improved both on defense and in the toughness department. Lowry has had his minutes go up over the last couple games and this is the best value pick of the day.
Not only can Lowry chip in as a scorer but he can assist as well. But what separates him on a DFS level is his ability to steal and block. Those are tons of fantasy points that most guards can’t provide. In a tight game as this expects to be, Lowry having an impact seems like a foregone conclusion.
Los Angeles Clippers C Ivica Zubac ($9,000 on DraftKings)
Tonight’s nationally televised game is a dream matchup for the Clippers center. Zubac has had a major impact for Los Angeles to begin the season and most of that comes on the glass. Zubac averages 13 rebounds a game in which he has had only one game this year with a single digit rebounding performance and that was nine in the season opener.
Without Joel Embiid, the 76ers continue to struggle on the glass as other than Andre Drummond, it is a team that struggles for size at the center position. This might seem like a extremely high price point but this could be an over 15 rebound performance which benefits DFS. This is a slam dunk start tonight.
Philadelphia 76ers at Los Angeles Clippers DFS Sit’em
Philadelphia 76ers F Caleb Martin ($7,000 on DraftKings)
The new Philadelphia 76ers acquisition from the offseason will be go down as one of the more under the radar signings of the 2024-25 season. Martin has proven to be a vital postseason piece with his three and D ability. But early into his 76ers career, Martin hasn’t been awful but hasn’t been great either.
Martin has remained in Philadelphia’s lineup but has only averaged 10 points a game and that is with no Joel Embiid and barely any Paul George. Martin has been taking a lot of threes but is only shooting 18% on the year from that range. Until Martin can turn around his rough start from beyond the arc, this should be a sit in this matchup.
Los Angeles Clippers F Derrick Jones ($6,000 on DraftKings)
Derrick Jones was a smart strategical pickup for Los Angeles in the offseason. With the injury to Kawhi Leonard, Jones moves into a starting role for the foreseeable future which must mean it would bode well for fantasy and DFS. But that just hasn’t been the case in the Clippers first seven games of the season.
Jones is not known for rebounding or assists which means that he is exclusively important for scoring but that hasn’t gone great this year. Jones average 10 points per game but has been inefficient over the last three games. This is too high a price to pay to hope a player can have a monster night.
