Tight End Week 7 Waiver Wire Pickups

tight ends

After telling you for weeks that the tight end position is back, this week was a statement with a shocking nine players having at least 12 fantasy points. Targets were higher than ever this week for tight ends which means things are still going on an upward trajectory. While that is the case, it still is hard to find the five or six players who can reliably put up great numbers week in and week out. So many of these players are touchdown reliant and that is the toughest aspect of football to be consistent about.

Top Three Tight End Pickups for Week 7

Eagles TE Grant Calcaterra

The Eagles have one of the most talented offensive weapons in the game of football. Superstars are everywhere but they did lose one of those players in the Week 6 win over the Browns. Tight end Dallas Goedert had been the best target for the Eagles in the previous three games but he suffered a hamstring injury that took him out of the game.

Hamstring injuries usually take a couple weeks to come back from which means that Calcaterra could be the starter for at least the next couple weeks. In week six, the former Oklahoma tight end had 4 catches for 67 yards. Calcaterra also played with Jalen Hurts at Oklahoma, which means that Hurts won’t be afraid to throw the ball to him. Teams won’t be too prepared to face Calcaterra so in the short term, this is a great pickup.

Panthers TE Ja’Tavion Sanders

The third-year tight end probably is not on most fantasy owners’ watchlists. The Panthers are also an offense that many fantasy players don’t want much to do with but since Andy Dalton has been the starting quarterback, the offense has been more than capable of putting up points. But the shocking part of that is Sanders being a focal point.

Sanders set a new personal career game high in targets, catches, and yards with a 5 catch game on 7 targets for 49 yards against the Falcons. Sander’s best performance in fantasy up to Week 6 was a 4.3 fantasy point game in Week 5 and in Week 6, he garnered 9.9 points. This is the riskiest waiver wire pick that I am putting out there this week but with the Panthers facing off against the Commanders in Week 7, this is an offense that can definitely give up some points. So if you need a flyer pickup, this should be the one.

Saints TE Juwan Johnson

The Saints had backup quarterback Spencer Rattler start in Week 6 and for a half, the Saints seemed like they hadn’t missed a beat on offense. Johnson had 3 catches for 48 yards in the loss which was his third-best fantasy outing of the season. But what’s exciting from a fantasy perspective is that the Saints should be in situations like Sunday where they are trailing for the majority of the game and have to air it out.

When you have a backup quarterback starting, usually that opens the door for checkdowns to running backs and tight ends at a much higher rate than if a starter was in the lineup. Johnson has been a reliable piece for the Saints all year and has had a solid season. With Chris Olave being banged up as well, this should open the door for more production for Johnson.
