Birmingham Phoenix Rise | Women’s Hundred Top Start ‘Em Sit ‘Em Picks 8/3/2024

Birmingham Phoenix

Ellyse Perry went off during her third game this season, smashing 66 runs in just 34 balls for the Birmingham Phoenix against the 1-1 Trent Rockets. The monkey is off the Birmingham Phoenix’s back as the team achieved their first win of the 2024 Hundred season and looks to keep momentum going. The Southern Brave, on the other hand, did not fare as well against Manchester. Losses to the London Spirit and Manchester Originals and a tie with winless Northern Superchargers place them at 0-2-1 and chasing a victory. Here is who to start and who to sit for the two upcoming Women’s Hundred games on August 3.

Birmingham Phoenix Game Time Information

The Southern Brave visit Birmingham Phoenix at Edgbaston for the early game. The start time is 11:00 AM local British Summer Time, or 6:00 AM EST. Edgbaston Stadium is historically a batter-friendly ground. Expect more runs from Ellyse Perry.

Trent Rockets Game Time Information

The Welsh Fire travel to Trent Bridge to face the Rockets in the second Women’s Hundred game. The first ball is bowled at 2:30 PM British time, or 9:30 AM EST. Look for the team that wins the coin toss to bat first at Trent Bridge in Nottingham.

Prediction Report

The Birmingham Phoenix finally hit their stride. Although just 1-2, each game has been an improvement on top of the previous match. Anticipate the Phoenix to win at home over Danni Wyatt and the Southern Brave. Give the win in the late game between the Welsh Fire and the Trent Rockets to the visitors. The Rockets recently lost at home to the Phoenix and Hayley Matthews is batting strong again.

Start ‘Em

  • Ellyse Perry. Batting in the third spot, the Birmingham Phoenix star scored 65 runs in her game-two loss to London Spirit. She followed that performance with 66 runs in her game-three win against the then 2-0 Trent Rockets.
  • Danni Wyatt: It looks like Danni Wyatt’s 2-run catch-out performance in the Southern Brave loss was a fluke. Danni scored 59 in her first game and most recently smashed 61 against the Manchester Originals.
  • Nat Sciver-Brunt: The Trent Rockets captain is the leading run-scorer for all three Trent games. Sciver-Brunt led her team with 36 runs, 56 runs, and 59 runs this season.
  • Hayley Matthews: The record-setting Windies star finally showed up for the Welsh Fire, knocking 78 not out, the highest individual run total this season.

Sit ‘Em

  • Emily Arlott: The Birmingham Phoenix bowler did not bat in the team’s third game. She also took zero wickets in 20 balls and gave up 3 boundaries and a six.
  • Freya Kemp: The Southern Brave all-rounder is having a bad season. Kemp scored only two runs in the team opener. She took zero wickets in the second match. And she combined those numbers for two runs and zero wickets in her third game.
  • Grace Potts: after scoring no wickets in her two games, and never batting, it looks like Potts has been replaced in the Trent Rockets lineup with Alexa Stonehouse.
  • Georgia Elwiss: The Welsh Fire bowler claimed no wickets and did not bat in her most recent game. She took zero wickets in her first and second matches as well.

Final Thoughts

The Birmingham Phoenix must be wary of young Southern Brave bowler Lauren Bell as the wild card in the early game. Bell took four wickets in her match against the Northern Superchargers, and she is just getting her career started. Keep an eye on Welsh Fire opening batter Sophia Dunkley in the late game. Her team-high 69 runs in the season opener and 35 in their second game make Dunkley a consistent threat. With Hayley Matthews delivering behind the crease, Dunkley stands to become a nightmare against the Rockets.
