Fantasy Wide Receivers to NOT Draft in 2024

Fantasy Wide Receivers

QsAs the NFL evolves from the running game to the passing game, wide receivers are becoming more involved in fantasy football. The longer the pass becomes more receiving yards for the wide out and bonus points for the player on the fantasy team. This makes fantasy football fun and make fantasy managers happy. All the points all the glory and the bragging rights for the week.

While there are the top wide receivers in the league such as CeeDee Lamb (DAL), Justin Jefferson (MIN), Tyreek Hill (MIA), Amon-Ra St. Brown (DET) just to name a few that will go in the first five rounds on draft day.

However, just like in every position in fantasy football there players to avoid all together. This is a article based on wide receivers to avoid all together and to not draft this upcoming NFL season. These players have hit the Do Not Draft List.

Mike Evans (TB) is a Hall of Famer there is no question about that but he is 31 years old entering this season. According to age in the NFL, production tends to decrease. Pro Football focus ranks Evans at 16th. Mike Evans did have 79 catches and 1,255 yards, 13 Touchdowns last season. Evans is being drafted at his peak and those are players that fantasy owners tend to steer away from. On the flip side , Chris Godwin is a more valuable player to draft in the 5th rounds because of his availability in the slot.

Calvin Ridley (TEN), Ridley finished the season WR17 and caught 76 passes for 1,016 yards and eight touchdowns. The problem for Ridley is that the Jaguars  did not invest in him and fantasy owners from last season know there were a lot of games that were duds for Ridley. As Ridley heads to Tennessee this season but the outlook is still not looking good with Will Levis at quarterback and DeAndre Hopkins as the number one wide receiver.

Jordan Addison (MIN), Addison’s value deteriorated even before he got arrested for a DUI this offseason. His production after Justin Jefferson suffered injuries last season was slim to non existent. He finished the season with 70 receptions for 911 yards and 10 touchdowns. Now more than ever Addison’s production this season can regress with Justin Jefferson healthy. But it will all depend on rookie QB J.J. McCarthy at quarterback for the Vikings if anyone can have a great season.

Devante Adams (LV), Adams is a great talent but just like Mike Evans; Adams is 31 years old as well. With the situation in Las Vegas at quarterback Adams worth may go down. There are other players in the draft such as Amon-Ra St. Brown who will be available instead of taking Devante Adams. In the past 10 years, only 17 receivers who were 30 years or older have averaged 15.0 PPR points per game.

Final Thoughts

This year’s fantasy football draft will be yet again interesting on which players get drafted in which rounds. However, there is always the do not draft list to pay attention to as well.  I hope after reading this it helps fantasy owners somewhat on what Wide Receivers to not draft this season. It might be tempting to draft veteran Mike Evans but Chris Godwin will most likely be the better choice because Godwin is younger and will have more of a role for the Buccaneers this season.

As for the other two Wide receivers Addison might be facing NFL consequences for his DUI charges on the offseason and his role in Minnesota is not on the upside. Also, Ridley does not have a shot with Will Levis at quarterback and competing with Hopkins.
