On Thursday, the day was filled with a multitude of top players going out but sadly the evening was full of rain which means multiple players will have to play twice today and the day as a whole could be filled with rain as well.
But on day five of the Western and Southern Open, there are still plenty of value for DFS in both second and third round matchups. Some can be upsets and some seeded players are undervalued in there matchups.
ATP Value Picks for DFS
In this first value pick of the day, a top 10 player is very undervalued and that is number seven seed Casper Ruud who is playing Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime in the second round and Ruud’s DFS value is $6,400. This match was supposed to cap off the night session last night but due to the rain, it is being played today and the winner will have to play their third round match today as well.
Ruud is ranked eighth in the world but he continues to be one of the most underrated players on tour. Clay is definitely the Norwegians favorite surface, but that doesn’t mean the results aren’t there on the hard courts.
While the Canadian beat Ruud at the Olympics, Auger-Aliassime did lose his first match on this North American hard court swing handily in his home country last week to Italian Flavio Cobolli. The Canadian is one of the most inconsistent players on tour and there is some great value at picking the much higher seed.
The next male value pick is to select American Frances Tiafoe at $7,500 in his third round matchup against Jiri Lehecka. The American does struggle usually when he is not playing on the North American hard court swing. But luckily, this is that hard court swing and Tiafoe usually turns his best tennis on now.
The American is coming off an impressive round two victory when he defeated Lorenzo Musetti in straight sets. Musetti was one of the hottest players on tour and Tiafoe dispatched him very easily. Lehecka is coming off of the upset of the tournament when he defeated Daniil Medvedev in straight sets. Lehecka usually falters after pulling off upsets so this a perfect opportunity to get on the Tiafoe train.
WTA Value Pick for DFS
The value pick of the day on the women’s side is to select Canada’s Leylah Fernandez at $7,100 in her third round match against Diana Shnaider. Fernandez won her biggest match since 2021 after defating the fourth ranked player in the world in Elena Rybakina yesterday.
The Canadian has been playing a lot stronger tennis as of late and the win yesterday could be the momentum she needs to get back competing for titles. Shnaider has been playing some great tennis as well which includes a semifinal appearance last week in Toronto. But Fernandez has been waiting for a win like she had yesterday and it seems time for her to take her next big step.
