David Njoku 2024 Fantasy Outlook: Will He Hold his Top-10 Tight End Spot?

david njoku

David Njoku just finished his 7th and best season of football with the Cleveland Browns. The 6’4” tight end out of Miami Florida set career highs in receptions, yards, and touchdowns in 2023. He finished with 81 receptions, 882 yards, and 6 touchdowns in 16 total games.

Njoku burst onto the scene as one of the league’s elite tight ends, but can we trust him going forward? On a Cleveland team with so many weapons, and no more Joe Flacco under center, how productive can we expect David to be in 2024?

Will Njoku remain a top 7 tight end, or will he fall off after his best season yet?

As I mentioned, 2023 was a great year for David Njoku. He accumulated 81 receptions, which led to 882 reception yards, 599 of which were after the catch. This comes out to a little under 11 yards per reception, which is impressive. David also finished with 6 touchdowns, which isn’t a lot compared to the other elite tight ends, but it is his career high and a great step forward.

Despite burning his face off in the middle of the season, Njoku still managed to play every game except for the Browns’ meaningless week 18 game against Cincinnati. In those 16 games, he scored 201.2 fantasy points total. That is 12.58 points per week which was good for the 7th best tight end in 2023.

David Njoku will be playing this season without Joe Flacco but still has a great quarterback in Deshaun Watson. With Watson in 2023, Njoku still posted 4.2 receptions and 38.3 yards per game. This isn’t fantastic, but it shows that he isn’t terrible without Flacco.

According to Fantasy Pros, Njoku is projected to be the 86th overall pick and the 8th tight end off the board in a fantasy draft. In full PPR, his ADP is 91st overall, and he is the 11th-ranked tight end. In half PPR, his ADP is 93rd overall and he is the 10th-ranked tight end.

In 2024, I project David Njoku to go for 700-800 receiving yards and 70-80 receptions. He will average about 10 yards per reception, which is one area where he has been consistent over his career. I also think Njoku will end with similar touchdown numbers, somewhere between 5 and 7. He is projected to be a 7th-round draft pick in fantasy drafts and will be a good value tight end in the later rounds.

Final Thoughts

David Njoku is in an interesting spot because he is coming off of a great year, but I don’t see much opportunity for him to exceed that this year. There are a lot of offensive weapons on this Browns team, including Nick Chubb and Jerry Jeudy who were not in the equation last year.

David was a top 7 tight end last year and is now being drafted anywhere from the 8th to the 11th tight end. For this reason, I believe Njoku could be a good value pick in the later rounds of fantasy drafts. He will be in a high-powered offense and has boom or bust potential every week.
