De’Von Achane 2024 Fantasy Outlook: Skilled RB Taking Over

De'Von Achane 2024 Fantasy Outlook: New Number One In Miami

De’Von Achane, the Texas A&M running back, is coming off a very promising rookie campaign with the Miami Dolphins. He is entering his sophomore year after being drafted 84th overall in the 3rd round of the 2023 NFL draft and signing a 4-year, $5,437,449 million contract.

Achane only played 11 games after suffering injuries during preseason and week 5. He competed in the backfield with the ageless wonder in Raheem Mostert. Both were very productive, but Mostert stole the fantasy show in 2023.

What is Achane’s value if he plays an entire season?

De’Von Achane finished his 2023 campaign with 800 rushing yards and eight touchdowns on 103 carries, averaging 7.8 per carry in 11 games. He also caught 27 catches for 197 yards and three touchdowns. A great compliment to Raheem Mostert, Achane should be more involved in the 2024 season, even with Mosterts 21 total touchdowns last year.

Even with only playing 11 games and sharing a backfield with Mostert, Achane finished the season as the 24th-best RB in PPR leagues. Achane had 190.7 points with an average of 17.3 per game. Only four other RBs in the league had a better average of points per game than him. He also finished with 163.7 total points in non-PPR with an average of 14.9 over 11 games.

De’Von Achane will enter the season looking to build off a promising year. His team, the Miami Dolphins, is set to be favorites, completing with the Buffalo Bills, who recently traded Stefon Diggs, and the New York Jets having Aaron Rodgers return. With Raheem Mostert entering the year at 32 years old with the Dolphins, Achane will likely see an increase in his carries and opportunities in the red zone.

According to ESPN’s Mike Clay, Achane is projected to finish as the 17th-best running back in full PPR leagues, while Mostert is projected to finish 33rd. He can easily finish as a top 12 running back even though he is a little undersized at 5’9″, 185 lbs. Take a look at players like Barry Sanders and Austin Ekeler (both of whom are around 200 lbs in with their best seasons).

With a healthy season (14+ games), I project Achane to have 922-1142 rushing yards, 41-50 receptions at 290 – 364, and 13-16 touchdowns. His increase in playing time should greatly increase his production, even with Mostert stealing some touches and showing off his athleticism.

Final Thoughts

De’Von Achane is projected to have a much more impactful year as long as he stays healthy. The Dolphins have lost some players on the offensive line that definitely contributed to the running back’s success. In my recent mock draft, I have Miami selecting Duke’s center Graham Barton, who will immediately fill a hole and become a significant piece to the success of Miami’s rushing and receiving game.

Given his explosiveness, he could easily finish as a top-eight running back, especially if the Dolphins phased out Mostert throughout the season. That said, do not expect Mostert to be completely taken out, they did sign him to an extension after all. Although Achane’s weight could be better than most would hope for, his speed and athleticism make him a great player in any league, especially a dynasty.
