College Career Summary

Brock Bowers recorded 175 receptions, 2,538 yards, and 26 touchdowns in his three-year college career. Additionally, he averaged 14.5 yards per catch. Bowers was a huge part of Georgia’s recent national championship seasons. He won the John Mackey Award twice, he’s the first player to do that. Bowers was no stranger to being an All-American, holding the distinction all three years at Georgia. He was the second tight end ever to be named an All-American three times. The Napa native also leads all Power Five tight ends since 2014 in receiving yards, receiving touchdowns, receiving yards after contact, and forced missed tackles on receptions.

2021

Brock Bowers’ first season as a true freshman at Georgia was fantastic. He caught 56 passes for 882 yards and 13 touchdowns. He averaged almost 16 yards per catch. Bower also ran the ball 4 times for 56 yards and a touchdown. His longest run was 24 yards. Brock and the rest of the Bulldogs capped off the year by winning the national championship against who else but Alabama.

2022

2022 was an even better season for Brock Bowers. He caught 63 balls for 942 yards and 7 touchdowns, averaging 15 yards per catch. It’s incredible. The guy averages more than a first down every time he catches the ball. 2022 was an even better year for Bowers on the ground as he recorded 9 carries for 109 yards and 3 touchdowns. He averaged 12.1 yards per carry and his longest run was 75 yards!

Bowers became a notoriously hard guy to bring down as he recorded 479 yards after the catch 274 and receiving yards after contact.  Bowers won the John Mackey Award for the first time in 2022. The Georgia Bulldogs ended the season with another national championship. They were saying to Alabama, “Hold on now. We can win the national championship two years in a row also.” Brock Bowers and the Bulldogs were cementing their place as an SEC powerhouse with these consecutive national championships.

2023

2023 wasn’t quite as great of a season for Brock Bowers standards, but it was still pretty great. He recorded 56 catches in 2021, 714 yards, and 6 touchdowns. The tight end averaged 12.8 yards per catch. On the ground, Bowers recorded 6 carries for 28 yards and a touchdown. He led all FBS tight ends with 486 yards after the catch and 249 receiving yards after contact. Bowers won the John Mackey Award again to end his illustrious college career. The Bulldogs lost to Alabama in the SEC Championship 27-24. Georgia went on to crush Florida State in the Orange Bowl by 60 points.

Rookie Outlook

https://://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XQCjX2K44FU&t=22s

Brock Bowers is the consensus #5 overall pick to the Chargers. If the Georgia product goes at #5, he will be the highest-drafted tight end since Kyle Pitts went #4 in 2021. Before that, T.J. Hockenson (#8 in 2019) and Eric Ebron (#10 in 2014) were the only other tight ends to be drafted in the top 10 in the past decade. Bowers can likely make an impact on the Chargers’ talented offense right away. Whether that’s in the passing game as an in-line tight end, a receiver split out wide, or jet sweeps like we’ve seen the 49ers run with Deebo Samuel many times.

The only major downside about Bowers seems to be his size. However, that’s a pretty easy fix. He just needs to hit the weight room a little bit once he gets drafted and that problem should be solved. Besides that, there’s not really any reason why Bowers won’t be able to succeed in the NFL. He likely won’t be as dominant as he was in college; most players aren’t, but he will be a great addition to an already solid receiving core of Keenan Allen and Mike Williams in Los Angeles.

Fantasy Outlook: Brock Bowers

Brock Bowers has a great opportunity to become one of the top tight ends in a fairly uncompetitive position in fantasy football next season. Tight ends are not like wide receivers or running backs in the fact that there are multiple of them on every team that sees significant reps and fantasy points.

There are a few talented tight ends that score a lot of fantasy points like Travis Kelce, Mark Andrews (except this season due to injury), George Kittle, and Even Engram apparently. Engram scored the second most points among tight ends with 230.3, an average of 13.5 points per game. Who knew, right?

Additionally, given the fact that if he goes to the Chargers, he is going to have a great quarterback throwing him the ball in Justin Herbert. It’s not like 2023 rookie wide receiver Jordan Addison who had Jaren Hall, Josh Dobbs, and Nick Mullens throwing him the ball in the absence of Kirk Cousins. Even so, Addison had a great season and was the 23rd-ranked wide receiver in ESPN PPR leagues. With Brock Bowers having a much better situation at quarterback, he has the potential to have a Sam LaPorta-like season, or even better.

Tight End Points Scarcity

There were only six tight ends last season that scored over 200 fantasy points in ESPN PPR leagues. 33 wide receivers scored over 200 and 18 running backs. Needless to say, points are scarce among the tight end position while the opposite is true with wide receivers and running backs.

Bowers isn’t just a threat through the air, he can also add in some yards and scores on the ground too. He scored five rushing touchdowns while at Georgia, about five more than you would typically see from a tight end.

Come late April, Brock Bowers will likely be drafted in the first five picks and will continue his great football career.
