Week 4 Matchup

Both the Carolina Panthers and New England Patriots enter Week 4 with identical 1-2 records, staring down the barrel of a 1-3 start that could derail their seasons before October even gets into full swing.

The Patriots are trying to wash away the bitter taste of a turnover-plagued home loss to the Steelers, a game that left fans grumbling and the offense searching for answers. Across the field, the Panthers are riding a wave of confidence after a stunning 30-0 demolition of the Atlanta Falcons. It was a complete performance that showcased the potential of their young core.

Carolina Panthers

The Panthers finally looked like the team they envisioned last week, and it all started with quarterback Bryce Young. After a rocky start to the season with five turnovers in the first five quarters, Young has been flawless, going seven straight quarters without a single giveaway. His connection with rookie receiver Tetairoa McMillan has been a revelation; McMillan has quickly become Young’s most trusted target.

New England Patriots

For the Patriots, the formula for victory is simple: protect the quarterback and control the line of scrimmage. Quarterback Drake Maye has been under siege, getting sacked 12 times and facing the seventh-highest pressure rate in the league. The offensive line has to be better. On the bright side, they face a Panthers run defense that has been gashed for over five yards per carry, opening the door for running back Rhamondre Stevenson to have a breakout game and take some of the load off Maye’s shoulders.

Prediction

Do you see either of these teams competing for a playoff spot in December? Or even November? Nope, me either. But, someone has to be picked to win. Carolina just had a confidence builder against Atlanta, so let’s go with them and the generous points.

Final Pick

Carolina Panthers  +5.5
