One of college football’s top quarterbacks, Shedeur Sanders is in the middle of trying to guide the Colorado Buffaloes to the College Football Playoff. Sanders transferred to Colorado from Jackson State after the 2022 season. He, his brother Shilo and do-everything superstar Travis Hunter followed Coach Prime to Boulder and to the spotlight of power conference football.
A high four star recruit in the class of 2021, Sanders committed to play for his father at Jackson State. He became the first HBCU player to ever receive the Jerry Rice Award, given to the FCS top freshman player.
Shedeur Sanders College Production
Sanders began his college career at Jackson State in 2022, where he led the team to a 12-1 record and threw for over 3,200 yards and 30 touchdowns. Sanders and fellow star freshman Travis Hunter followed Coach Deion Sanders to Colorado after their freshman season.
During his first season in Boulder, Sanders got off to a scorching hot start, showcasing his immense talent. In his first three games, he threw for 1,251 yards and 10 touchdowns. He ended up with 3,230 yards and 27 touchdowns on the season as Colorado lost their final five games and missed out on a bowl game. Sanders has continued his rise up NFL draft boards during his junior season. Through the 2024 regular season, he finished third in the country with 3,926 passing yards and second with 35 touchdown passes.
Shedeur Sanders as a Player
At 6’2” and 215 pounds, Sanders has good size and the right build for an NFL quarterback. He has the ability to make all the necessary throws and his mobility gives him the capability to extend plays outside the pocket and scramble down the field when needed. With the NFL leaning on mobile QBs more and more, Sanders is viewed as a valued commodity. He isn’t a true dual threat quarterback like Jayden Daniels or Anthony Richardson, but he does have an escape ability similar to Bryce Young. His toughness and willingness to be physical allow him to extend plays beyond what may even be desired.
Not unlike every player, Sanders has areas that need to improve for him to reach his potential. While he is a good mover in and out of the pocket, he tends to take some unnecessary risks that could turn disastrous. Becoming more consistent with his reads will be instrumental in his growth at the NFL level. Another area of concern is his maturity and leadership. He has been known to place blame on others when things don’t go as planned and has not dealt with criticism very well throughout his career.
Shedeur Sanders Devy Outlook
Sanders is one of the best pure passers heading into the 2025 NFL Draft. He is accurate on and off platform, throws his receivers open more often than not, and can fit the ball in tight windows. He offers a high floor, but also has an extremely high ceiling. Teams will do the due diligence when it comes to evaluating his mental and emotional capabilities, but he has it all physically.
He will likely be a top five selection and possibly the number one overall pick in the spring, so his projected draft capital can’t get much higher than it currently is. There are a number of ways to attack his rosterability. If you already have him, you can choose to keep him and bolster your roster. You could also choose to trade him away for a pretty decent haul in SuperFlex leagues. If you are looking to get him, you’ll likely need to trade the farm to acquire him. He is not a cheap asset.
