Baker Mayfield is very quietly having a fantastic season, both in the NFL and in fantasy. While 4-2 isn’t the best record, Baker Mayfield has done his part each game to give the Buccaneers every chance to win the ball game. Week in and week out, Baker Mayfield is doing his thing and playing his game and is in line for a potential MVP season if I may be so bold. We will dive into how this translates for fantasy this year and years beyond.
Baker Mayfield’s Future In Fantasy
Baker Mayfield was the center of attention for most of his young career and while on the Cleveland Browns. He was supposed to be the savior for the Cleveland Browns organization, and since it did not come to pass Baker Mayfield was cast aside and forgotten about.
Well, the 29-year-old now has a bright future on the Buccaneers, with a hot start to the season, I am boldly putting my prediction in that Baker Mayfield not only be an MVP candidate but will win the MVP. With age still on Baker Mayfield’s side and great wide receivers in Chris Godwin and Mike Evans, there is little to stop Baker Mayfield from being a fantasy force for several more years to come.
Baker Mayfield Outlook Past 2024
There is a ton to like for the foreseeable future with Baker Mayfield. The only downfall that is on the horizon is the age of his wide receivers and how that will affect Baker Mayfield in seasons to come. But the bigger issue is currently the lack of a running game for the Buccaneers. With no potential solution in the making, the only shot is future rookies or a headline-breaking deal for an elite running back.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are still winning games regardless of their ground game, so that is still very much a positive. While it may seem like a good thing that Baker Mayfield will need to throw more with no running back, it will hurt him in the long run when teams only have to focus on the passing game. But these two problems are beyond Baker Mayfield’s control, and is up to the front office staff to put bodies on the field, if they can do that then Baker Mayfield can work his magic.
Baker Mayfield Value
Value with quarterbacks is tough. Normally in 12-man leagues and one QB slot, there isn’t a big reason to go after quarterbacks with enough options week in and week out. However, with leagues that have two QBs or QBs for Superflex, the quarterback realm just got a whole lot more valuable. The consensus is to buy Mayfield.
His talent and age say he has multiple above-average to great seasons left, thus securing one of your QB slots for years to come. To go as far as a first-rounder for the 2025 draft is a big stretch, I can see a second for sure and a fourth or fifth tossed in. Or a second and a mid-tier player to go along with the trade.
While I am big on Baker Mayfield and I believe in his talent and skill when it comes to dynasty the gap between a Mayfield, Daniel Jones, Trevor Lawrence, or Dak Prescott. So I am saying buy but don’t bet the farm on him as there are enough arms to go after that will fill the gap without breaking the bank.
