Vernell Brown III is making a big name for himself and his hometown high school Jones High School of Orlando Florida. Florida is known for a few things, Disney World, hurricanes, and most famously the Florida Gators, the team, and animals. The Florida Gators are beyond stoked to sign this local homegrown talent to their impressive collegiate team and will look to develop him into an even better player.
Vernell Brown III As A Player
Vernell Brown III is a respectable 5-11 170lb wide receiver. For his high school, Vernell Brown III is just shy of 2,000 yards receiving, according to MaxPreps. An impressive feat, and not to overlook his national ranking, as 247 Sports has him ranked the number five wide receiver, and 39th overall. This has Vernell Brown III in the company of Dakorien Moore, Caleb Cunningham, and Dallas Wilson. It’s not bad company at all to be in.
A shortcoming that this standout wide receiver has is undoubtedly his size, as that is one thing that can’t be taught. But his skill in getting off the line, and route running in the first 10 yards is unmatched. There will be issues for contested passes due to his size, but it would be hard-pressed to find someone better at receiving abilities on their routes uncontested.
This does limit Vernell Brown III’s total upside, the Florida Gators will no doubt improve his speed, pass-catching, and overall ability as a player, but he may be destined for a slot receiver role if he wants to make an impact at the NFL level.
Vernell Brown III Devy Outlook
The future for this young man is a narrow one, but still increasingly bright. While his size does play a key role in his future value in devy leagues and more so in the future for NFL dynasty leagues, his talent and skill bring a ton of upside. With the development program with the Florida Gators, there is little doubt that this great talent can turn into an elite.
A comparison that comes to mind is rookie Ladd McConkey. Limited by size he is still making a great impact for his team, and more importantly for his fantasy managers and owners. The slot position is where Vernell Brown III can make the most impact on his future and career. As his speed and pass-catching are already at the top-tier level, he will need creative routes to produce top-end results.
Due to this limiting factor, there is a drop in his floor and ceiling ratings. The crystal ball shows WR 20-18 at peak and WR 30 if things don’t align with how we envision his collegiate career. This is not to say you shouldn’t go after Vernell Brown III, but understand his limits and how that can impact your team. There is definite PPR potential in those leagues with the right team and the right quarterback throwing to him. Be mindful when drafting, but don’t be afraid to take a flyer on this young man.
