Spencer Rattler, the 150th overall selected player in the 2024 NFL draft will be making his debut come this Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Will this be the dawn of a new sun rising in Saints football history? Or will Spencer Rattler be another quarterback in the merry-go-round that is the New Orleans Saints? We will cover the fantasy impact that Rattler will have on not only the remainder of the season but also on dynasty implications for years to come.
Spencer Rattler’s Future In Fantasy
The 2024 NFL draft was a very exciting time for fans and players alike. None more than quarterbacks as that position did not fall in line with what the expert predicted. With Penix Jr. Going to the Atlanta Falcons, that forced the Denver Broncos to reach for Bo Nix. The next quarterback drafted, well that would come some 140 picks later when the Saints drafted Spencer Rattler. But that is the past, with Derek Carr sidelined with an oblique injury, the reins are being given to the Rookie.
What does this mean for Spencer Rattler’s future in Dynasty football? The future is bright for this young man, that is the short and sweet answer. There are times in football when a star just needs an opportunity and much like Tom Brady an unfortunate injury is Rattlers’ chance to shine.
Spencer Rattler Outlook Past 2024
There will be going pains for sure this year as there are with any rookie quarterback, except Jayden Daniels apparently, but that’s a different article on its own. But with quality receivers like Olave and Shaheed, and a dynamite running back in Kamara, there is tons of talent surrounding this young man.
A pause for concern is the Offensive line, it has been shown already this year that they allow a ton of pressure on the quarterback. With this being a major cause for concern the major issue for Rattler to step into a major key player beyond the 2024 season, is for the Saints to work heavily on improving the O-Line. If that improves for the 2025 season and beyond, then the youth, talent, and coaching all point to a high upward trajectory for Rattler.
Spencer Rattler Value
To put a fantasy-relevant value on Rattler in a dynasty format, it would be highly recommended to pick up the new Saints starting Quarterback, especially if you have an open slot. Depending on how deep your league is, or format, 2-QB, Superflex. The quarterback position can be thin, and new talent is hard to come by.
Spencer Rattler has already talked about focusing on getting Olave the ball, which in the Saints’ two wins this year, was a very big key factor. A rattler is more of a thrower than a runner, which increases the value as there is less chance of injury in a high-injury sport and adds value to those with throwing yards as a metric of points. His lack of pedigree compared to his draft class, Williams, Daniels, Nix, etc.
There is not much hype around Rattler, as a fantasy owner that is what we like to see. Low buy and super high potential. The word on his value picks him up immediately as he can be the future guy for the Saints, or make an offer for him, a Dalton for Rattler, or a low 2025 pick, like a 4th rounder or even as high as 3rd rounder if the team has a plethora of Quarterbacks. The bottom line, take the risk and see how it plays out, nothing to lose and a whole heck of a lot to gain.
