Joel Embiid is entering his 11th year in the NBA, even though he missed the first two years of his career. He’s been a legit star big man for the last four years but his health has always been the most serious drawback to his fantasy value. Even though he’s been averaging over 30 a game the last few years, he always seems to find an injury that’ll keep him out for a while, hurting his redraft value. Let’s look at his 2023-24 production and 2024 Olympics to see where his value is now.
Joel Embiid 2023-24 NBA and 2024 Olympic Production
Joel Embiid averaged 34.7 points per game, 11.0 rebounds per game, 5.6 assists per game, 1.2 steals per game, and 1.7 blocks per game in the 39 games he played in the 2023-24 NBA season. Embiid was on track to win his second straight MVP award before going down with a meniscus injury that cost him because of the new minimum 65-game requirement for awards. He was on pace for a historic fantasy season before the injury as he was the No.1 player during that stretch.
Embiid’s 2024 Olympics was pedestrian after a highly anticipated role for him as the USA starting center, as he averaged 11.2 points per game, 3.8 rebounds per game, and 1.4 assists per game. He had a couple of disappointing performances in Paris including the Gold Medal match where he only scored 4 points in that game. Let’s look at his 2024-25 projections for the upcoming season.
Joel Embiid’s 2024-25 Projections
Joel Embiid is currently ranked as the 7th-highest player in ESPN Fantasy rankings heading into the 2024-25 NBA season. ESPN has the following stat line projection for Embiid for the 2024-25 season, 34.1 points per game, 11.0 rebounds per game, 5.1 assists per game, 1.1 steals per game, and 1.7 blocks per game.
Embiid will have Tyrese Maxey and Paul George as co-stars this season so it should free up Embiid for more opportunities this season as defenders are going to have to have to gameplan for George as well as the ascension of Maxey to a whole new level, leaving more one-one opportunities for Embiid. Embiid is going to have to stay healthy, and George should provide more opportunities for rest so he doesn’t have as much wear and tear on his body throughout the season.
Final Thoughts
Joel Embiid is a top-three center in this league based on talent, and his scoring is at such an elite level it is worth it to pick him in redraft leagues every single time even though the injury history is way too high for most people. Embiid is going to continue to exploit mismatches and score at a high clip as the number-one option for the 76ers.
Embiid health is going to be paramount for his fantasy owners this season and the 76ers are probably going to use Load Management as much as possible. But Embiid should give you plenty of support on your redraft leagues to help win you a fantasy championship.
