Jalen Hurts was selected with the 53rd overall pick in the 2020 draft by the Philadelphia Eagles to be the backup to Carson Wentz. Then he ended up starting a few games in that pandemic season towards the end once the Eagles were officially out of it and played pretty well. His dynasty value has been rising ever since as he has been one of the top fantasy quarterback options since 2021 his first full year starting in the NFL.
Jalen Hurts 2021 Season
In his first full season as a starter, Jalen Hurts showed some of what he can be as he built a connection with Devonta Smith throughout that season. In 2021, Hurts had 3,144 yards passing with 16 touchdowns and 9 interceptions while rushing for 784 yards and 10 touchdowns. That season had some ups and downs along the way as expected because of his first full season starting.
Dynasty owners realized quickly that Jalen Hurts was going to be one of those guys who would win seasons going forward if he could get another weapon on the outside. And in 2022 he got that answer in AJ Brown.
Jalen Hurts 2022-2023 seasons (Super Bowl then Collapse)
After Howie Roseman brought in a good friend of Jalen Hurts, AJ Brown, to pair up with Devonta Smith and Dallas Goedert as pass catchers. Hurts game no question was elevated in 2022. He had 3,701 yards passing with 22 touchdowns and 6 interceptions in Shane Stiechen’s offense. His rushing numbers slightly dipped in yards with 760 but he scored three more touchdowns with 13, because of the introduction of the “Tush Push”.
Jalen Hurts used this momentum of the new offense to help the Eagles get back to the Super Bowl where he had the best game of his career to date in the biggest moment. He had 374 yards of total offense and 4 touchdowns in the Super Bowl, and if he had more time, probably would have a Super Bowl ring to go along with it.
Meanwhile, in 2023, he had his highest career passing yards total to date with 3,858 yards but had his worst turnover season with 19 total turnovers. The Eagles had one of the worst collapses in NFL history after starting 10-1, they would lose 6 of the last 7 including the wild card game to Tampa Bay.
The second half of the season was brutal for Philadelphia overall but did expose the need to revamp some things with the team including the offense.
Jalen Hurts Future Dynasty Value
Jalen Hurts will grow as a quarterback once again starting in 2024 because of new offensive coordinator Kellen Moore. Jalen Hurts will have another leap in passing this season because Moore will give him the answers he needs against the blitz in 2024.
Plus with the addition of Saquon Barkley, the rushing attack will once again be dynamic for potential huge gains in the read option offense and RPO game like in 2022. We have seen so far in camp his speed is back once again. Dynasty owners should expect some big things from the former Alabama quarterback in 2024 as the second-best quarterback to have in fantasy at the moment.
