Tylan Wallace 2024 Fantasy Outlook: More Than A Returner?

Heading into his fourth NFL season, Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Tylan Wallace is looking to make the team. But with his preseason performance, he should be a lock for the roster as a depth receiver.

Last year, Wallace made his impact as a return man, especially with the punt return touchdown against the Los Angeles Rams in 2023. This season, he is competing with veteran returner Deonte Harty but with his value as a reliable playmaker, the 25-year-old should have the edge.

Tylan Wallace was buried on the depth chart in his rookie and sophomore seasons as mostly a special teamer. The former fourth-round pick from 2021 didn’t have any elite physical traits coming out of Oklahoma State. However, he showcased some potential as a reliable playmaker and route runner in 2023. After dealing with a few injuries early, Wallace is looking to be more involved in the offense.

The 25-year-old hasn’t recorded his first regular-season touchdown and only has 1 start in his 37 career games played the last three years. Tylan Wallace has a career 7 receptions and 67 receiving yards in limited playing time as a bench receiver. However, he did record a walk-off punt return touchdown in 2023 that led to their victory over the Los Angeles Rams in Week 14.

Wallace 2024 Fantasy Outlook

Tylan Wallace has not been fantasy-viable and is currently not even ranked as a wide receiver according to Fantasy Pros. However, if he makes the team and with the new kick return roles, the young playmaker could see some more action on the field. This could extend to the offense as well depending on their starting receivers’ health. That includes Zay Flowers, Rashod Bateman, and Nelson Agholor as their main projected three starting wide receivers.

Wallace will also have to surpass rookie fourth-rounder Devontez Walker, who has had a slow start in preseason and training camp due to an injury. Undrafted rookie Dayton Wade has also made some noise this preseason, so it will be tight competition for the remaining receiver spots. Other than potentially returning punts and kicks, Tylan Wallace does offer sure hands as a pass catcher.

Final Thoughts on Wallace

This preseason, Tylan Wallace recorded four catches for 105 yards and a touchdown, taking an intermediate pass from Josh Johnson to the house. He could push for a role in the slot over veteran Agholor, as he has had issues with drops in the past despite a decent 2023 season.

For fantasy, Tylan Wallace won’t be drafted or picked up from waivers anytime soon. However, if Wallace carves out a starting role, he will be one to look out for. He would be in an explosive offense that features Derrick Henry and Mark Andrews, catching passes from Lamar Jackson.
