The Miami Dolphins drafted Jaylen Wright in the 2024 NFL Draft. He was Miami’s 1200th pick in the fourth round. Jaylen went to Tennessee, where he led the Volunteers in rushing yards and touchdowns. He was named second-team All-SEC for the 2023 season. Jaylen made his debut in his first NFL preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons. Wright led the Dolphins in rushing yards during Friday night’s game. He rushed on ten carries, 55 yards and a touchdown.

Jaylen Wright’s first NFL game left a strong impression. His highlight of the night came in the second quarter, when he scored his first-ever NFL touchdown, giving the Dolphins a 16-10 lead. Wright made the most of a fumble recovery and finished strong for the Dolphins

Head Coach Mike McDaniel shared his thoughts on the young rookie’s performance after the game: “it was what I’d hoped  to see, it was his first outing, but I wanted to see a confident runner who gained confidence after something didn’t go his way.” Jaylen had a missed cut, a slip, a dropped pass, and bobbling screen passes. But McDaniel said, “ Wright showed resilience, and it was a good outing for him because he faced a little bit of everything and finished strong.”

The Dolphins have an active backfield with RB Raheem Mostert and RB De’Von Achane. However, Jaylen Wright averaged 7.5 yards a game for the Tennessee Volunteers last season. He ran a 40-yard dash in 4.38 seconds. Jaylen Wright can hold his own in this Miami Dolphins backfield with his speed and agility. If Mostert or Achane misses any games for any reason this upcoming season, the Dolphins will still have a solid back in Wright.

Final Thoughts

Jaylen Wright was drafted by the Miami Dolphins this season; he is a rookie in the NFL. He has a lot to learn this season and experience the NFL. Wright would be a great 14th or 15th-round pick for an NFL Dynasty league. For a PPR or non-PPR league, Wright would be a good choice in the later rounds as well or even picked up on waivers since he is a 3rd priority running back.

Since he is a rookie, he will be around in the NFL to make a name for himself. Jaylen will look to improve as a player and will get another chance this week in Week 2 of the NFL pre-season, where the Dolphins will take on the Washington Commanders.

Mike McDaniel was already seen smiling on the sideline with Wright’s performance in his NFL debut. Jaylen Wright’s former offensive coordinator at Tennessee, Joey Hazel, says, “Wright is a violent runner.” The Miami fans, coaches, and players got to see Jaylen showcase his talent.
