Daniel Jones 2024 Fantasy Outlook

Daniel Jones

What do I say about Daniel Jones? Well, there are heroes among us who sacrifice themselves for the greater good. Beasts among men who lift others up no matter the obstacle and defy failure at every turn. They give their all and get results every time. On the other side of the coin, there are guys like New York Giants Quarterback Daniel Jones. He’s downright gross.

Am I being a hater because I’m a Dallas Cowboys fan? Oh, for sure, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t true. Just watch a game from last season before Daniel Jones got hurt and tell me he’s a franchise quarterback. Unless you’re New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll, you can’t!

In 5 seasons, he’s totaled 12,512 yards and 62 passing touchdowns while rushing for 1,914 yards and 13 touchdowns. The numbers alone aren’t awful by any means, but his availability has been. Jones has missed multiple games in every season except 2022, which happens to be his only playoff appearance. Now, Daniel Jones is coming off an ACL repair that might limit his rushing upside in addition to his general mobility.

Ever since being drafted 6th overall in 2019, Daniel Jones has been erratic, to say the least. Giant fans hoped he was going to be Eli Manning but with wheels. Unfortunately, that hasn’t been the case. Daniel Jones often reminds me of a chicken with its head cut off, running all over yet going nowhere, and it’s just brutal to watch.

Daniel Jones has been in the league for 5 years now and I’ll admit, he’s had some moments of promise. 2022 saw him set career highs and lift his team to the playoffs. He threw for 3,205 yards and 15 touchdowns, which isn’t too impressive, but he also rushed for 708 yards and 7 TDs which improved his fantasy football prospects. However, that was Daniel Jones pre-ACL tear and there’s no guarantee he’ll improve on those numbers.

Last season, Daniel Jones only played 6 games and he looked downright pitiful. He threw only 909 yards for just two touchdowns while tossing an embarrassing 6 interceptions. It wasn’t all his fault. The offensive line never really clicked and his top passing option was the corpse of Darren Waller, but still, a great quarterback lifts players up around him.

Will Daniel Jones Have Help?

This offseason, the Giants added LSU wideout Malik Nabers in the draft to improve the wide receivers that Daniel Jones will be working with this year. They also signed former pro-bowler Allen Robinson to see if he has anything left in the tank. The two of them join Darius Slayton, Wan’Dale Robinson, and Jalin Hyatt in a pretty solid wide receiver room. The only question is if Daniel Jones will give them a chance to succeed.

The Giants also very publicly moved on from Saquan Barkley, who signed with a division rival, the Philadelphia Eagles. He’s been the best player on the team since he showed up and now he’s gone. In his place, the Giants brought in free agent acquisition Devin Singletary from Houston, who is criminally underrated but definitely undersized for a lead back. He joins Eric Gray, a second-year player from Oklahoma, and Tyrone Tracy, a rookie who’s been earning lots of praise, in the backfield rotation. Each of these players offers some level of upside, but overall, it’s a big loss for Daniel Jones.

Final Thoughts

I made it clear very early in this article that I think Daniel Jones is cooked. I wouldn’t draft him on any of my teams, as there are plenty of other longshot quarterbacks worth risk. If you need a QB coming back from injury with a chance to shine, take a look at Deshaun Watson instead. Unlike Daniel Jones, he has an opportunity to break out again.
