Fans of The Women’s Hundred get two red-hot matches in one day to kick off the month of August perfect for a day of Start ‘Em Sit ‘Em fantasy cricket. First, the top-ranked London Spirit hosts the Welsh Fire at the historic Lord’s Cricket Ground.

Then the Manchester Originals visit the Southern Brave in Southampton. Counting the two men’s matches that follow, August 1 gives fantasy cricket lovers four matches to catch in ten hours. Keeping up to date on all the action, here are the Women’s Hundred Start ‘Em Sit ‘Em picks for 8/1/2024.

Game Time Information

The day’s opening match between the 2-0 London Spirit and the 1-1 Welsh Fire starts at 7:30 AM EST, or 12:30 PM Local British Time. This is the second home game for the Spirit at Lord’s. The previous match resulted in a 20-run win over the Birmingham Phoenix.

Next, the Southern Brave hosts the Manchester Originals at the Rose Bowl in Southampton. That match begins at 10:00 AM EST or 3:00 PM Local British Time. The home team is winless with a 0-1-1 record, while the Originals sit at 1-1. The Brave lost their home opener to the London Spirit and tied the Northern Superchargers in Headingley. And Manchester needs a win to stay above them in the rankings.

The London Spirit is one of only two teams where a player has scored a half-century in each of their two games. The 2-0 Oval Invincibles are the other team. That same Invincibles team handed the Welsh Fire their single loss this season. A win for the Fire places them above the Spirit in the standings. But with the 2-0 hosts playing at the storied Lord’s, this match swings lightly in favor of London. This match offers some great Start ‘Em picks on both sides of the ball.

Although the Southern Brave are winless, their performance on paper is worse than in action. Only three balls separated them from the Spirit in their home loss. They also held Northern Superchargers to a tie as the visitors, so they still have a chance at the postseason this year. Manchester won over the Trent Rockets, but that was by one run, and Nat Sciver-Brunt scored 57 on them. This is as close as it gets, but the edge goes to the hosting Southern Brave. There are reliable Start ‘Em picks in this match-up, but several Sit ‘Em choices also.

Heather Knight

  • The Spirit team captain scored 65 in her opener and 26 in her second game, and she did both batting fourth for London. The seasoned veteran Knight is always a reliable Start ‘Em selection.

Sophia Dunkley

  • The Welsh opener smashed nine boundaries and two maximums for 69 runs in the Fire season opener. She led her team with 35 in her next game as well. Dunkley is another veteran choice for a guaranteed Start ‘Em pick.

Maia Bouchier

  • Opening for the Brave with reliable Danni Wyatt, Bouchier scored 35 runs in her first match, then added another 22 in her follow-up game.

Laura Wolvaardt

  • The South African native and reliable global performer batted for 37 in her opener, including four boundaries and a six. She also scored a respectable 12 in her second match, where she left early on a runout.

Erin Burns

  • The Australian All-rounder is a late-order batter who has only faced two balls in three games, and those two balls resulted in a duck. She took two wickets in the Spirit opener but gave up two boundaries with zero wickets in her next match.

Beth Langston

  • Langston sat out the Welch Fire opener only to deliver zero wickets in the next game. On top of that, she gave up two boundaries, two no-balls, and a wide. A Sit ‘Em and not a Start ‘Em; keep Langston off any fantasy teams for now.

Freya Kemp

  • The left-handed, middle-order batter struggles to score runs for the Southern Brave. Batting in the number five spot, Kemp went out for two runs in the team opener and has been kept so far from bowling.

Emma Lamb

  • Batting third is considered the most relevant position in a game. For the Manchester Originals, Emma Lamb scored ten runs in two games batting third. Batting above her, Beth Mooney scored 43, and Laura Wolvaardt scored 49.

Conclusion

Two Women’s Hundred games make for an exciting day of fantasy cricket. These Start ‘Em Sit ‘Em picks should pair well with two great games where every ball matters. This is already an exciting season of The Hundred and it is just getting started.
