Pierre-Luc Dubois this offseason was once again traded, this time the Los Angeles Kings moved on after only one season of Pierre-Luc Dubois signing a 8 year , $68,000,000 contract with the Winnipeg Jets, apart of a sign and trade, landing him with the Los Angeles Kings including $19,500,000 signing bonus, $68,000,000 guaranteed.
Pierre-Luc Dubois was traded to the Washington Capitals for Goalie Darcy Kuemper, a 1 for 1 deal.
Kings GM Rob Blake immediately took the fall for the Dubois Trade and Contract.
Well, I don’t think I did a good enough job of integrating him in the right roles on the team here this year,” Los Angeles general manager Rob Blake said. “You know, I think it wasn’t a great fit in that aspect for us, and we’ll take responsibility for that.”
Pierre-Luc Dubois Career Stats.
The 25-year-old center had a very disappointing season, Dubois only had 40 points (16 goals, 24 assists) in 82 regular-season games for the Kings this season and one goal in five Stanley Cup Playoff games. Los Angeles (44-27-11) was eliminated by the Edmonton Oilers in the Western Conference First Round.
Selected by the Columbus Blue Jackets with the No. 3 pick in the 2016 NHL Draft, Dubois has 342 points (145 goals, 197 assists) in 516 games with the Kings, Jets and Blue Jackets and 27 points (11 goals, 16 assists) in 43 playoff games.
Washington Capitals Projected Lines.
The Washington Capitals added many new pieces to their roster, including Pierre-Luc Dubois of course, also getting Andrew Maginpane from the Calgary Flames for a second round pick.
Per Daily Faceoff, these are the 2024-25 Washington Capitals projected lines as of right now.
Line 1: (LW) Alexander Ovechkin – (C) Dylan Strome – (RW) Tom Wilson
Line 2: (LW) Connor McMicheal – (C) Pierre-Luc Dubois – (RW) Andrew Maginpane
Line 3: (LW) Sonny Milano – (C) Hendrix Lapierre – (RW) Taylor Raddysh
Line 4: (LW) Brandon Duhaime – (C) Nic Dowd – (RW) Aliaksei Protas
Obviously just projections, but this means that Dubois will not start the season at least playing with either of the two top forwards in Washington, Dylan Strome who had 27 goals (career high) and 67 points in 82 games, and Alexander Ovechkin, who had 31 goals and 65 points in 79 games, who is also only 42 goals away from breaking Wayne Gretzky’s record of the most goals in NHL History at 894 Goals.
Capitals Coach Spencer Carbury on Dubois
Head coach Spencer Carbery provided some insight, and while he sees a lot of potential in Pierre-Luc Dubois’ game, he isn’t going to automatically make him the first-line center for Superstar Winger Alex Ovechkin.
“I don’t think it’s fair to say Pierre-Luc coming in is going to now have the responsibility to set up O,” Carbery said.
“He’s a big body, can control the game, can skate, is very very has shown through his career of being able to be productive down the middle from a point production, from starting in his defensive zone, moving the puck and ending in the offensive zone,” Carbery explained. “A lot of different things that you could say will set up O, but it’ll just help us play at a higher level.”
Carbury also said that Preseason and Training Camp will be a big factor in deciding lines and who plays with Washington or who goes down to the Hershey Bears the AHL team.
We’ll look at a bunch of different things. I’ve thought about this, that’s the luxury of training camp and the length of it to be able to work on some things,” Carbery said.
