Zack Wheeler 2024 Fantasy Outlook

Zack Wheeler

The Philadelphia Phillies were the best team in baseball by a large margin heading into the All-Star break. But since that point, the Phillies as a whole have mightily struggled and not one single player was consistently great during the bumps of the Phillies season. But ace Zack Wheeler has found his form at the right time for both fantasy owners and the Phillies.

Wheeler continues to be not talked about enough in many CY Young awards considerations but if you have had the Phillies top starting pitcher on your fantasy team, you sure have enjoyed top-tier value at the starting pitcher position.

After Zach Wheeler struggled in his final start of the month of July against the New York Yankees in which he gave up seven runs in five innings, the Phillies ace has found his best form of the season. Wheeler has been money in his previous three starts which includes two outings against very good opponents in the Seattle Mariners and the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Wheeler is 2-0 in those three outings and he has gone at least six innings in all of those starts. Wheeler also produced 8-9 strikeouts in two of those three outings. Wheeler has been putting on a show as of late and based on his consistent track record since coming to Philadelphia, there should be no doubts this will continue.

Upcoming Outings

The only reason to cause some doubt in the Phillies star is the upcoming opponents. This week alone, he will start in two crucial road games against the division-rival Atlanta Braves and the Kansas City Royals. But as a fantasy owner, there really shouldn’t be any situation for the remainder of the season where you begin to even contemplate pulling him out of the lineup.

For this week, while these are some of the toughest matchups for Wheeler for the remainder of the season, that doesn’t mean fantasy owners should be afraid to put him in their starting lineup.

Outlook for Remainder of 2024 Season

Wheeler on the season is 12-5 with a 2.77 era and that includes three starts in which he gave up at least seven runs. Wheeler has pitched like a true ace for 95% of the season. The Phillies still have a lot to play for in the final month of the season as they are trying to win the NL East and hold onto the number one seed for the National League which would give them the lone bye.

Wheeler will continue to pitch in important games down the stretch which should give fantasy owners all the confidence in the world as Wheeler usually delivers for the Fightins when it matters.
