Wyatt Johnston 2024-2025 Fantasy Outlook

Wyatt Johnston has turned into an absolute superstar, in the 2022-23 Season, Johnston played his debut season at only 19 years old for the Dallas Stars, 24 goals and 41 points in 82 games, nearly being a 30 goal scorer at 19 is very impressive, but this past season he became a star.

Wyatt Johnston exploded, putting up 32 goals and 65 points in 82 games, reaching the 30 goal mark in only his 2nd NHL season at age 20, an absolutely unreal season which continued and arguably got better in the postseason.

Wyatt Johnston had 10 goals, 6 assists and a plus-minus of +4 in 19 games in the 2024 playoffs, he scored in 3 consecutive games vs the Edmonton Oilers in the Western Conference Finals, he scored 2 goals in game 3 in round 1 vs the Vegas Golden Knights, an absolutely huge performance when Dallas was down 0-2 in the series and on the Road.

A Part of Wyatt Johnston’s success has been Joe Pavelski, the now retired and former Dallas Stars Forward let Wyatt and other young Forward Logan Stankoven live with him, the Dallas Stars Coach Pete DeBoer called it “true leadership”.

You never know how those groups are going to interact,” Dallas coach Pete DeBoer said. “But it’s been fantastic. They’ve come together. They’ve taken care of each other. I think it starts with guys like Joe Pavelski taking Johnston and Stankoven in his house.

“I’ve been on teams in these situations before, and sometimes the veterans are threatened by the younger guys, right? They’re getting to the twilight of their career. They’re having to take a lesser role on the team. They’re seeing young guys take bigger roles, and sometimes that’s tough. But we’ve got such a good group of veteran guys.”

It’s not leading when things are going well for you,” DeBoer said. “It’s leading when you might have to take a little bit less and someone else might be stepping into a role you used to play for a long time in this league and being supportive of that, and that’s rare.”

The Loss of Joe Pavelski is huge for Dallas, he was a huge leader and a productive player still even at age 39, filling his hole won’t be easy, but guys like Stankoven and Johnston stepping up even more and you expect them to get better, will help fill that void, they’ll only get better throughout the season and will give Dallas huge minutes.

Wyatt Johnston is expected to be on the 1st Powerplay unit, with Jamie Benn, Roope Hintz, Jason Robertson and Miro Heiskanen.

Johnston is also expected to be on the Penalty Kill 2nd unit with Roope Hintz, Esa Lindell and new addition from the Maple Leafs in free agency Defensman Ilya Lyubushkin.

Final Thoughts

Wyatt Johnston had a huge 23-24 season, and there’s no reason why he can’t keep improving, he will be entering his 3rd season in the NHL, and has played all 82 games in both of them, he should play on both the Powerplay and the Penalty Kill, giving him more ice time in every situation.
