Scotland and Papua New Guinea head to the Netherlands for a late summer Women’s Tri-Nation Series. Six ODI matches and three T20Is are slated for two separate grounds throughout the country. All three associate nations currently maintain a temporary ODI status within the ICC. Of the three, only the Dutch women are ranked as they currently sit at the 13 position.
Gender issues come into play in that Thailand women are ranked nine globally. But the Thailand men’s team is considerably subpar. And that affects the Thailand women and their inability to maintain ODI status. Additionally, Afghanistan is a full-member nation so their women are automatically permitted to play ODI games. However, the Afghanistan government outlawed women from playing sports, meaning there is no women’s team.
Netherlands Women’s Tri-Nation Series Game Time Info
The first two Women’s Tri-Nation Series ODI matches occur at the Sportpark Maarschalkerweerd cricket grounds in Utrecht, Netherlands. The final four ODs and all three T20I matches then switch to the VRA Cricket Ground in Amstelveen. Both stadiums are known for their batter-friendly pitches. Expect the team with the most experience and stronger line-up to take each win.
All six Women’s Tri-Nation Series ODI matches start at 11:00 AM local time or 5:00 AM EDT. In the ODI games, each team plays the other two teams twice. For the T20Is, all teams face each other only once. Each game, hosted by the ICC-ranked Dutch team, takes place at 2:00 PM local time. In the United States, game time starts at 8:00 AM EDT.
Top Batters
Robine Rijke: Look for the Dutch all-rounder to impact both sides of the ball. The experienced Rijke is expected to be a leading fantasy point-scorer during the Women’s Tri-Nation series. In her career, Rijke took six wickets in nine ODIs, and 23 in 61 T20Is. Her highest ODI run score is 83 and she went 84 not out in T20is.
Saskia Horley: This experienced Scottish all-rounder is expected to score high fantasy points in this Women’s Tri-Nation Series. She is a mainstay in English and Australian domestic cricket. Her top run total in T20Is is 52 in seven matches. And she took three wickets with two of them coming in one game. Horley has only played in one ODI, scoring 62 runs and taking three wickets.
Top Wicketkeeper
Babette de Leede: Fantasy managers are safe with whichever team wicketkeeper they select for this Women’s Tri-Nation Series. All three excel at their positions. But de Leede is the most experienced keeper, giving her the edge over the others. De Leede scored 249 runs in nine ODIs, averaging 27.66 per game. Her T20I average is 20.93 with her highest total of 82 not out.
Top Bowlers
Darcey Carter: This young Scottish all-rounder is only 19 years old and already a seasoned cricketer. Carter started playing English domestic cricket two years ago. She also participated in the Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup in 2023. Carter struggles in the ODI format but excels in T20Is. In the latter format, she took 13 wickets in 15 games.
Vicky Araa: The seasoned bowler from Papua New Guinea is one of the team’s best Women’s Tri-Nation Series stars. Araa began her international cricket career in the 2018 Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifiers. The best bowler Papua New Guinea has, Araa took multiple four-wicket hauls in T20Is. She also has 44 career wickets.
Final Thoughts
The Netherlands Women’s Tri-Nation Series begins on August 5, 2024. The host nation takes on Papua New Guinea in that opener.
