Will Shipley is an intriguing prospect in 2024 for the Philadelphia Eagles, a former Clemson Tiger who was the primary focus on offense in college, is not going to be a focus player right away in Philly because of Saquon Barkley. Shipley is going to see some action, especially after the receiving touchdown he got in the preseason game against Baltimore last week but it might not be enough to warrant a pickup in fantasy unless there is an injury to either Saquon or Kenny Gainwell. Let’s look at Shipley’s production at Clemson last year.
Will Shipley 2023 Production
Will Shipley had 167 carries for 827 rushing yards 5 rushing touchdowns and 31 receptions for 244 receiving yards and 2 receiving touchdowns in his final season at Clemson in 2023. Shipley had so-so dominator ratings and had a horrendous 2.14 average yards per play, which was third-worst in the 2024 class according to Fantasy Pros analysis of him heading into 2024. He’s going to be a backup player into 2024 but Shipley is going to improve that yards per play because of the offense he’s going into in 2024 with Kellen Moore at the helm. Speaking of 2024 let’s look at the projections for Will Shipley.
Will Shipley 2024 Projections
ESPN Fantasy has Shipley as the RB 89 in fantasy this year with a projection of 33 carries for 141 yards and a touchdown rushing and 8 receptions for 56 yards for a total of 34.62 fantasy points performance. That’s probably the expectation for the rookie running back in his first year behind Barkley and Gainwell for most of the year.
Fantasy Pros has Shipley as the RB73 in their ECR ratings with the 9th-easiest running back schedule in 2024. Fantasy Pros projects Shipley to get 34 fantasy points with 23 carries 151 yards and 1 touchdown. Will Shipley brings a unique dynamic to the Eagles’ offense that they haven’t had as much along with Saquon, as long Shipley keeps up his pass protection he’ll get more opportunities, but with the weapons around Jalen Hurts the rookie running back will be likely the eighth or ninth option on the roster fantasy-wise.
Final Thoughts
Will Shipley is an interesting dynasty play if you play dynasty because of the uncertain future of Kenny Gainwell in a couple of years, but for redrafts, unless there is an injury to one of the two guys in front of Shipley, I wouldn’t touch Shipley in fantasy this season. Like the player but the opportunities are far too limited at the moment for him to make a huge fantasy impact in 2024.
