Week 8 Quarterback DFS Start’em/Sit’em

week 8

It’s Week 8 of the NFL Season, and we have a good slate of NFL action this week regarding quarterback matchups including Hurts vs Burrow, Caleb Williams vs Jayden Daniels if Daniels can play with his rib injury, and Baker vs Kirk 2. Week 8 is generally when we see what teams can continue the trends they have set as it’s the official halfway point of the season. Here are the Total Apex quarterback starts of the week for Week 8.

Quarterback Must Starts For Week 8

Quarterback Jalen Hurts Philadelphia Eagles
New York Giants linebacker Bobby Okereke (58) goes after Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts (1) just before sacking him in the second quarter, Sunday, January 7, 2024.

Here are a few of the players we are heavily leaning on in this game. These players are in a good spot to have a solid performance in a favorable matchup.

Jalen Hurts ($7,500 Draft Kings, $8,600 FanDuel)

Hurts is coming off a game where he only had 104 passing yards and a touchdown against the Giants and still managed 22 fantasy points on both platforms because of the “Tush Push” aka “Brotherly Shove”. The Bengals can be exposed against the pass and mobile quarterback look at the overtime thriller with the Ravens a couple of weeks ago. Look for Hurts to have a bigger game passing this week in Cincinnati.

Joe Burrow ($7,000 Draft Kings, $7,700 FanDuel)

Burrow is rolling right now for the Bengals, He’s thrown for 1,759 yards, 14 touchdowns, and only 2 interceptions on the season. After a slow start, Burrow has gotten this offense to be one of the most efficient offenses in the NFL at the moment. The Eagles defense is coming two straight games without allowing an offensive touchdown. That being said Burrow should still have a good day against Philly.

Josh Allen ($7,800 Draft Kings, $9,400 FanDuel)

Allen has been excellent thus far for the Buffalo Bills, Throwing for 12 touchdowns and no interceptions while posting the best QBR this season across the whole league. Allen and the Bills will travel to the Pacific Northwest to take on the Seattle Seahawks. The defense has been inconsistent under new coach Mike MacDonald so far this season. Allen should have a field day, especially with building upon the connection with the new receiver Amari Cooper

Quarterback Must Sits for Week 8

On the flip side of things, here are a few of the players we are sitting in Week 8.

Drake Maye ($5,500 Draft Kings, $7,100 FanDuel)

Drake Maye is coming off a strong game overseas in London against the Jaguars, I expect this week for him to come back down to earth a bit against the New York Jets. Even though the Jets’ defense did give up 37 points to the Steelers last Sunday night, expect the Jets’ defense to bounce back against the former North Carolina Tar Heel and the Patriots. So expect Maye to have a couple of turnovers this week making him worthy of a sit.

Daniel Jones ($5,300 Draft Kings, $6,700 FanDuel)

Daniel Jones is arguably the worst quarterback in football and last week against Philadelphia was exhibit A of that claim, where he only threw for 99 yards and was sacked 7 times. It only gets worse for Jones this week as the Giants face Pittsburgh and TJ Watt on Monday Night Football. The same Pittsburgh Steelers defense that held the Jets to 15 points last week. Expect another horrible performance from Jones on Monday night.

Tua Tagovailoa ($6,100 Draft Kings, $7,000 FanDuel)

If Tua gets cleared to play, still sit him against the Cardinals. Yes I know, the Miami offense looks ten times better when Tagovailoa is in there but it’ll take some time for Tua to be game-ready again after his third documented concussion. This is a sit-out of rust rather than product on the field. Plus Arizona is a defense that can be stingy at times this season including in Week 7 against the Chargers.

Lock of Week 8

Lamar Jackson ($8,000 Draft Kings, $8,800 FanDuel)

Lamar is coming off a 5 touchdown performance on Monday Night in Tampa Bay and has been the best quarterback in fantasy football in general this season as he has averaged around 27 fantasy points per game on both Draft Kings and FanDuel. And in Week 8 Jackson plays the Cleveland Browns, who can be a tough defense to go up against but Jackson has success against them throughout his career. Expect at least 20 fantasy points from Lamar again.

Fade of Week 8

Trevor Lawrence ($5,600 Draft Kings, $7,200 FanDuel)

Trevor Lawrence is coming off a good game against the Patriots in London, but in Week 8 Lawerence is facing a Packers defense that just held CJ Stroud to a career-low 86 yards passing. Lawrence will struggle against the Packers’ relentless secondary led by Xavier McKinney, expect a least one interception from Lawerence in this game on Sunday.

Sleeper of Week 8

Caleb Williams ($6,000 Draft Kings, $7,400 FanDuel)

Caleb Williams is a huge sleeper pick in Week 8, as the budget on Draft Kings is a good one for this matchup against the Commanders. Even though the Commanders only allowed 7 points last week against the Panthers, the Commanders’ defense is still a liability and Willams had been playing better before the Bears’ bye week in Week 7. Look for Williams to reestablish the performances he’s had the last two games against Washington in Landover, Maryland this weekend.

Conclusion

Lamar Jackson is the quarterback to play in most lineups, but if you want to be within budget a little bit, I would play Hurts, Burrow, or Williams. Stay far away from Jones, and Lawrence in Week 8.
