Week 5 Quarterback Start’Em Sit’Em

week 5

We have officially entered Week 5 of the NFL season and the bye weeks have formally started for teams. Bye weeks are difficult to navigate for DFS because the players that have been balling and making money for you will be on bye so you have to find someone. This week we continue the quarterback start’em/sit’em series here on Total Apex looking at the position on who to start and sit for DFS. Week 5 has some intriguing matchups in the League. Here’s a look at the starts for the week.

Quarterback Must Starts for Week 5

Lamar Jackson ($7,500 Draft Kings, $8,800 FanDuel)

Lamar Jackson is playing the Bengals this week in a big AFC North division matchup in Week 5 and normally Lamar has big games against the Bengals in his career with Baltimore thus far. The Ravens have been running the ball a lot more as well since the Dallas game, and Lamar has been a huge part of that run game. If he can get the passing game going this week as well, Lamar Jackson will make you a lot of money in your DFS lineups.

Quarterback Must Sits For Week 5

On the flip side of things, here are a few of the players we are sitting in this one.

Sam Darnold ($5,900 Draft Kings, $7,600 FanDuel)

In Week 5, the London games start with the Minnesota Vikings playing the New York Jets. Unfortunately for the Darnold hype train, the Jets still have a solid pass defense even without the services of Jermaine Johnson (injury) and Hasson Reddick (holdout). So the passing offense led by Darnold is going to suffer a little bit making Darnold a sit for this week.

Andy Dalton ($5,400 Draft Kings, $7,100 FanDuel)

Andy Dalton has been the bright spot of the Panthers offense ever since stepping into the starting role before the Raiders game after the Panthers decided to bench Bryce Young. But this week is not the week to replay Dalton in DFS because the Bears’ defense is the second-best unit against Quarterbacks on Draft Kings and FanDuel.

Lock of Week 5

Jayden Daniels ($6,800 Draft Kings, $8,700 FanDuel)

Jayden Daniels has been the huge bright spot at the quarterback position in fantasy this season, coming off a huge game against the Arizona Cardinals on the road. Daniels has accounted for 7 total touchdowns on the year. Daniels has averaged 23.7 fantasy points per game on Draft Kings, and 23.67 on FanDuel. Even though he plays Cleveland’s defense this week I would still have Daniels as the lock of the week based on the performances so far this season in Kliff Kingsbury’s offense.

Fade of the Week 5

Kyler Murray ($6,700 Draft Kings, $7,500 FanDuel )

Kyler Murray has had an up-and-down season up to this point as we enter Week 5, as Murray has 6 passing touchdowns on the season thus far. But coming off a week where he struggled against one of the league’s worst passing defenses and only put up 14 points, goes up against a rejuvenated division rival San Francisco 49ers who is coming off a dominant performance against the New England Patriots. For that reason alone Murray is the Fade of the week.

Sleeper of Week 5

Justin Fields ($5,800 Draft Kings, $7,600 FanDuel)

Justin Fields came off his first loss in Week 4, and in Week 5 is on Sunday Night football against the Dallas Cowboys. Fields had a productive second half against the Colts as he ended up with a total of 36 fantasy points on Draft Kings for that game.

Fields and the Steelers look to bounce back against a Dallas Cowboys squad that’ll probably be without Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawerence due to injury in this game. Fields is the Sleeper of the week as well because on paper the Cowboys’ pass defense will normally be better but the injuries they have will make them more susceptible and the budget on Draft Kings also makes him a great Sleeper option this week.

Final Thoughts

Jayden Daniels and Lamar Jackson are the best two plays in Week 5 this week because of the mobility both players have. Week 5 is going to say a lot about several teams including the Vikings and the Steelers as they have huge spotlights on them in different ways. Fields and Darnold will be tested huge in both games. Other matchups include Josh Allen vs. CJ Stroud, which both QBs almost made my starts list. Tune into Total Apex for the rest of the week for the other starts/sits for the other positions and we’ll be back next week for the Week 6 quarterback starts/sits.
