Day one of the US Open saw a multitude of upsets on both the mens and women’s side. Multiple players played in there final major of their careers and the majority of favorites handled their business. As Day 2 arises, the rest of the draws are in action which sees major winners as well as up and coming Americans. With record setting crowds for a beautiful day one of the championships, it seems New York is fully ready to go for the U.S. Open.
US Open Mens DFS Value Picks
Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis is in at exciting matchup and it is a good idea to take him at $6,000 in his first round match against 11th seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas. The Greek number one had been a player who was challenging at the majors but this has not been his year.
Tsitsipas had been coached by his father but they had a big breakup in Canada which has led to a rough North American hard court swing. The Australian player has had some solid results in the lead up with a round of 16 in D.C. and a win over Gael Monfils in Canada. Kokkinakis loves playing in a great atmosphere and this is the most beatable Tsitsipas has been in years.
Another excellent value pick is Borna Coric at $8,800 in his first round match against the Frenchmen Adrian Mannarino. To be fair, this has been a year that both players would love to forget. Mannarino had a surprisingly good 2023 but he is 8-23 in 2024. The 36 year old has been showing his tennis age this year and that has led to a rough year.
Coric is 11-16 but has a lot more firepower than the frenchman. Coric is nine years younger and has the game to overmatch. Coric has also played a lot more tennis on the North American swing so form is also in favor of the Croatian. While both men have struggled this season, Coric is a good value pick in this matchup.
US Open Womens DFS Value Pick
This might be a shocker to most but Naomi Osaka is the WTA value pick of the day at $7,700 in her first round match against 10th seeded Jelena Ostapenko. Osaka is a two time U.S Open champion but while she hasn’t been in form lately, this is a good matchup for her.
Osaka won one match on this North American swing but like most of the players who played in the Olympics, it has taken time to get back used to the hard courts. Osaka also has played players like Elise Mertens and Ons Jabuer who don’t hit that big and make Naomi beat them.
With Ostapenko, she can hit the most brilliant but also the wildest shots you’ll see. Osaka prefers when players she plays against matches her power and that is exactly what this matchup will bring that. This is the popcorn match of day 2 and Osaka has some great value for DFS.
