Day four of the US Open was a day full of upsets. Multiple ranked players on both the men’s and women’s sides went out. As day 5 arises, there could be even more upsets. This probably is one of the most exciting days of American tennis as Ben Shelton will be talking on Frances Tiafaoe while Coco Gauff is in a tough third-round match and Taylor Fritz is in action. For American tennis’s sake, hopefully, Friday is a great day for American tennis.
US Open Womens DFS Value Picks
In a potential upset that American tennis fans will not be rooting for, there is good value to pick 33rd seed Elise Mertens at $6,200 in her third-round match against 14 seed Madison Keys. Keys has surprised many with her level in the first two rounds. Keys had a major injury at Wimbledon which took her out of most of the North American hard court swing. But the American has been excellent even though her opponents have not been the greatest.
Mertens on the other hand is the perfect opponent to stop Keys. Mertens has had a very solid summer and she’s the type of opponent Keys does not like facing as Mertens won’t hit many errors and force Keys to wither win or lose the match on her string. Mertens doesn’t hit with much pace which is also something Keys isn’t comfortable with. This is a great chance for an upset on the women’s side.
To help out the U.S. to having a good day 5 is the 13 seed Emma Navarro at $8,200 in her third round match against 19 seeded Marta Kostyuk. Navarro has put on a clinic so far at the U.S. Open as she has only dropped four games in her first two matches. The American has been so dialed in and she continues to go under the radar.
Kostyuk has also been playing good tennis as well throughout the summer. These two did meet three weeks ago in Toronto and Navarro came out the victor in straight sets. The American is on a roll and that should continue.
US Open Men’s DFS Value Pick
On the men’s side, Frances Tiafoe at $7,000 looks for revenge against 13 seeded Ben Shelton. These two met last year in the quarterfinals and it was Shelton’s arrival as a premier player on tour. Shelton also has won the other time they played against one another. But Tiafoe lives to play well at this event and it would be hard to believe the young, up and coming American would have his way once again.
Tiafoe has had a rough year but with some excellent results over the last month, he has so much momentum and has revenge on the mind. It seems like Shelton will be the leader for American’s men tennis for years to come but in the present, Tiafoe will have something to say about that.
