The last major of the year has heated up. Both on the court as the play has been terrific but also with the weather. On Wednesday, temperatures were in the low 90s and the 100s on the US Open courts, leading to multiple retirements and some sloppy play. But the good news as the tournament heads into day four is that the hot weather should be behind us which means normal conditions with some awe-inspiring play.
US Open Women’s DFS Value Picks
The first value pick is to select Marie Bouzkova at $6,600 in her second-round match against the 16th seed Liudmila Samsonova. Bouzkova is one of the most solid players on the WTA tour. She doesn’t possess the biggest of games but won’t beat herself with many unforced errors.
Bouzkova had one tremendous result on the North American hard court swing which was making the final in Washington D.C. and along the way to that finals appearance, she defeated the US Open favorite Aryna Sabalenka. Samsonova definitely should be seen as the favorite as she has put together good results in the leadup but she has struggled in the past with players who don’t hit with tons of pace. Win or loss, Bouzkova should make this a tight match that she can even win and this is very good value for this play.
One upset to look at for on Day 4 is when Spaniard Sara Sorribes Tormo at $5,300 takes on the 22nd see Bea Haddad Maia. The Brazilian has had moments in 2024 where she has looked like a top 10 player but mostly, she has had a roller coaster of a year as it pertains to results. At the majors, Haddad Maia has reached the third round twice and was bounced out of the first round at the French Open.
Even though she is coming off a finals appearance in Cleveland last week, consistency has not been a word to associate with the 22 seed. Tormo is one of those veterans who players hate seeing in their draw as she has an unconventional game and she makes her opponents grind for every point. For a player as inconsistent as Haddad Maia, this is great value for the underdog.
US Open Mens DFS Value Picks
31st-seeded Flavio Cobolli has a $8,300 DFS value in his second-round match against Zizou Bergs. The 22-year-old Italian has been the least talked about of the Italian men’s players but he has had a tremendous year, especially on this hard-court swing. Cobolli made it to the final in Washington D.C. which included a win over Ben Shelton.
In the two Masters events, he got wins over Felix Auger-Aliassime and Tommy Paul. The confidence is there for the Italian and it will certainly help that his opponent had a barn burner of a first round. Bergs won in five sets in a match that took well over four hours. With the heat of the last couple of days, it’s hard to know how much he has left in the tank and he would be the underdog anyway without any external forces.
