Tyreek Hill has been a league winner the past two seasons for fantasy for most teams, including mine.
The Miami Dolphins have been one of the most explosive offenses under head coach Mike McDaniel and that has been exceptionally fruitful for fantasy football.
Although the team itself hasn’t always shown up for the big games or been competitive in the later months of the season, there’s still plenty of appeal to take the 30-year-old speedster.
Even with the addition of multiple new weapons for the Dolphins, at least for a few more seasons, it should be the “Cheetah” show in Miami.
Hill’s average draft position has risen every year since 2022, so will he still be worth it as a top-five receiver in most redrafts at least for 2024?
Tyreek Hill Production and Stats
The two seasons with the Dolphins have been career highs for Tyreek Hill, with back-to-back 1,700 plus yard seasons, nearly doubling his touchdowns from seven to 13 from 2022 to 2023. Although his career-high in total touchdowns was with the Chiefs in 2020, the potential for double-digit scores will always be there for a dominant receiver like Hill.
In his six seasons with Kansas City, the eight-time Pro Bowler and five-time First-team All-Pro had one down year due to injury in 2019, but won a Super Bowl that same year.
Hill turned from an elite returner to a top wide receiver who led the league in yards and co-led in touchdowns this past season. Using his world-class, almost Olympic-level speed to burn defenses over the top, he’s been a cheat code ever since 2016.
The addition of Hill elevated Miami’s franchise quarterback Tua Tagovailoa‘s game to a whole new level, even leaving more on the field.
Tyreek Hill 2024 Fantasy Outlook
According to Fantasy Pros, Hill’s ADP is third overall based on Expert Consensus Rankings (ECR). The Miami Dolphins’ top target is among the likes of CeeDee Lamb of the Dallas Cowboys, Ja’Marr Chase of the Cincinnati Bengals, and Minnesota Vikings receiver Justin Jefferson.
Even with an age difference, the boom potential of Tyreek Hill is always peak upside better than almost anyone in fantasy. The Dolphins receiver has shown he can win you weeks early on in the fantasy season. The likes of Lamb, Chase, and Jefferson have pending contract talks ongoing, while the veteran is set in stone in Miami for at least this season.
In 2023, Tyreek Hill was second in total overall points with 299, averaging almost 20 per game, able to score from anywhere at any time. The big-time deep threat and shifty playmaker can make a difference for your fantasy team in one or two huge plays a game.
Lamb did overtake him as the top fantasy receiver, as Tyreek Hill was hurt and not as effective on the field with a lingering injury late in the season.
Leading up to the 2023 season, Tyreek Hill was the third receiver often taken, usually at 13th overall according to CBS Sports. That ended up being a steal following a season in 2022 where he was a consensus second-round pick and the eighth receiver in redraft leagues in 12-man leagues with full PPR, according to Fantasy Football Calculator.
For alpha receivers like Hill, competition isn’t a problem for their track team offense in Miami. He is the focal point as their top player and should be a top pass catcher for fantasy football once again.
Final Thoughts on Tyreek Hill
Miami is entering a make-or-break 2024 season, as a lot is riding on Tua, the offensive line, and their team in later parts of the year. Injuries on the defense and offensive line hurt them big time, so doubling down by adding weapons and playmakers is one way to approach it.
While their method could backfire, exercising the fifth-year option for Jaylen Waddle and adding a veteran like Odell Beckham Jr. were no-brainer good moves.
The Dolphins drafted Chop Robinson in the first round to boost their pass rush, which was ravaged by injuries specifically to Bradley Chubb and Jaelan Phillips, who had his fifth-year option picked up.
McDaniels always went for speed in the 2024 NFL Draft, with selections like Jaylen Wright at running back and adding more youth at receiver with Malik and Tahj Washington. They are unrelated and both offer quickness for the archetype of pass catcher the Dolphins trend towards.
I still see Hill as worth the investment as a top receiver, especially if he isn’t a top-three player in redraft.
