Tight Ends Start’Em, Sit’Em: Week 2

tight end

Football is back and for the majority of teams it was not an offensive clinic in week one. As it pertains to tight ends, a mere five tight ends had at least 10 fantasy points and none of those were the big name tight ends. So after a mostly disappointing first week for tight ends, that shows how important it can be to have a tight end that plays well. While it might not lose fantasy owners in a week, they certainly can win you matchups.

Ravens TE Mark Andrews

This might surprise many after Andrews disappointed fantasy owners in week one against the Kansas City Chiefs. It seemed that Lamar Jackson trusted backup tight end Isaiah Likely more than the star tight end Andrews. But with that being said, the Ravens struggled in general in week one at pushing the ball downfield, and with how high-powered of an offense this team can be, expect the major adjustment on offense will be to get their number one receiving option the ball more in week two. The Raiders don’t pose a too difficult threat for Baltimore in week two so expect Andrews to finally make his presence known this week.

Tight End Sit’em: Week 2

Raiders TE Brock Bowers

The first-round pick from Georgia was definitely one of the most talented players that was drafted in 2024. This sit has nothing to do with Bowers himself and the talent he possesses. The problem for Bowers is that quarterback Gardner Minshew did not play well at all in their week one loss to the Los Angeles Chargers.

The Raiders do have a very talented offense outside of the quarterback position but it does matter who gets Bowers the ball and right now, the Raiders don’t have the answer within the organization. Michael Mayer also remains another factor as another tight end on the Raiders who will see some targets. Baltimore has an excellent secondary that should cause some problems so this is a rough matchup as a whole for the rookie tight end.

Jaguars TE Evan Engram

The Jaguars’ tight end was most likely one of the first five tight ends selected in fantasy drafts. Most people were expecting a bounce-back season from Jacksonville but week one did not help. The Jaguars blew a 14-point lead and the offense was shaky for a majority of the game. As it pertains to Engram, he saw just one catch for five yards.

Engram can be a productive tight end especially after the Jaguars lost Calvin Ridley in free agency. But outside of first-round pick rookie Brian Thomas Jr., no other pass catcher was a major factor in week one. Jacksonville will be hosting the Browns this week and after they disappointed in week one, expect that championship-caliber defense to bounce back against an offense lacking confidence.
