Tight Ends Week 1 Start’Em/ Sit’Em

Tight Ends like Texans Dalton Schulz can provide great value in dfs

While tight ends are a top-heavy position this year, it’s important to know some sleeper hits at a valuable position.

The best time of the year is finally upon us and that is the kickoff of the NFL 2024 season. Shows, podcasts, and analysts have talked about summer predictions, what will or won’t happen among other things but the time for talk is over. On September 5th at 8:20 p.m., it’s time to finally see with our own eyes what the season brings us.

The first tight end that should be in your lineups in week one is Dallas Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson when they visit the Cleveland Browns. The Cowboys summer has been filled full of contract drama. It took a week from the season starting to sign star receiver Ceedee Lamb while quarterback Dak Prescott has not signed an extension yet.

With that being said, Lamb has not been in at training camp all summer and this is not a deep receiving core. When that is the case, quarterbacks look to throw the ball to a reliable tight end and that is what Jake Ferguson is. Ferguson finished as a top 10 in fantasy points for tight ends in 2023 and with less help on the outside, Ferguson is primed for an even stronger 2024. With Lamb missing the majority of camp, look for Ferguson to have a big week one.

Another tight end with good value for week one is Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth. Russell Wilson was named the starting quarterback for the team in the steel city and while that should open up the deep ball passing game for Pittsburgh, Wilson has always been a tight end friendly quarterback.

Wilson tends to hold onto the ball longer than most quarterbacks which allows running backs and tight ends to get targets in check-down situations. Friermuth like all Steelers receivers has struggled in recent years but with Wilson at the helm, that should open the door for the Steelers’ tight end to get off to a good start.

Tight Ends Sit’Em

Houston Texans tight end Dalton Schultz has been one of the most reliable tight ends since he has entered the league for both the Cowboys and Texans. What is different this season is that the Texans massively upgraded on offensive talent. Houston added Stefon Diggs and Joe Mixon into the mix. That adds to the already established Tank Dell and Nico Collins.

The Texans have a lot of upside heading into the 2024 season but their are not enough footballs on the team to give to all of these immensely talented players which means Schultz could be one of the guys not seeing enough targets to warrant a start in week one.
