Tight End Week 5 Waiver Wire Pickups

After the first four weeks were all about how the tight end position should not be a thing for the foreseeable future in fantasy, week five was a much-needed return to form for the position. Nine players had double-digit fantasy points and 14 had at least eight points. While a lot of these tight ends came out of nowhere, that means having a pulse on the waiver wire will give fantasy owners a huge advantage in their leagues.

Top Three Tight End Pickups for Week 5

Buccaneers TE Cade Otton

This is the second consecutive week that Cade Otton makes this list and it is for the right reason. Outside of one dud of a game for the Bucs, the offense has been one of the best in football. Otton has been one of the more reliable fantasy starts over the last two weeks. After a 9.7 performance in week three, he followed that up with an 11.2-point game in week 4.

Overall, Otton is averaging nearly six fantasy points per game which is something that the majority of the tight ends don’t have. It might seem too low but at this position, that is good enough to not just roster but start. If for some reason you are in a league with him being available, snatch one of the most underrated players in the NFL.

Chiefs TE Noah Gray

The Chiefs have the most famous tight end in the game but with a major injury to Rashee Rice who made up 40% of the Chiefs offense, it is time to look at the other valuable Chiefs tight end. The impact that Rice’s injury will have is quite major and it’s not a deep receiver room. The Chiefs went to a lot more two tight end sets which means Gray will play a lot more than he ever has in his career in Kansas City.

Gray had eight fantasy points in the week four win and now the Chiefs will face the Saints in week five who have been bad at defending opposing team’s tight ends. This waiver wire pickup could be the steal of the week as most defenses will focus all of their attention on Kelce which will open up Niah Gray.

Bengals TE Erick All

While Mike Gesicki is the starting tight end for the Bengals, they may have found another new option for one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. The rookie had zero fantasy points in week one but since then, All has had at least 6.2 fantasy points. In the last three weeks, he has made four catches and it feels like a matter of time before All becomes a more impactful red zone contributor.

This consistency is rare to find and many fantasy owners probably have never heard of All. If you are in need of someone who you know will get you a solid amount of production, this is the find. While the fantasy ceiling isn’t sky high, the floor is certainly not on the floor.
