Week 14 of fantasy football delivered, with the more known quantities at tight end having a great week. These types of weeks have been hard to come by but week 14 gave the majority of fantasy owners a nice week. But now, it is the fantasy football playoffs. Win-or-go-home matchups deliver some really bragging rights or heartbreak. But while these superstar tight ends had great weeks, don’t think that this is sustainable. This position continues to be very inconsistent so last week should make you more aware of the key waiver wire pickups that could lead you to a fantasy championship.
Top 3 Waiver Wire Pickups for Week 15
Eagles TE Grant Calcaterra
What all three of these players have in common is that they are backups who are now starters due to major injuries. In this case, the Eagles placed Dallas Goedert on injured reserve and he will miss at least the next three games. Calcaterra caught his first NFL touchdown in the Eagles’ tight win over Carolina this past week. He still isn’t a major threat as it pertains to production but he will be in the majority of Philadelphia’s offensive snaps, which makes him quite valuable for fantasy. He is a part of one of the most dynamic offenses in the league.
Chargers TE Stone Smartt
The Chargers fought hard in a tough and gut-punching loss to the Chiefs on Sunday Night Football this past week. But what emerged this week was Smartt who barely had any catches during the season had an impact in week 14. What helped with that was Will Dissly going down with an injury, which led to Smartt being the only reliable tight end for Los Angeles. He then went on to make 3 catches for 52 yards.
If Dissly will miss any time, this is a must-have as it seems every pass catcher for the Bolts is banged up and Justin Herbert needs some healthy pass catchers. So with that being the situation for Los Angeles, it’s time for you to get Smartt to use or even stash for later in the playoffs just in case Dissly injures himself even more. This is a sneaky but effective pickup for week 15.
Giants TE Daniel Bellinger
The Giants had a solid tight end all year long in Penn State rookie Theo Johnson. Johnson proved many doubters wrong and most certainly will be a reliable target for years to come for the New York Football Giants. But sadly, Johnson is out for the rest of the year, which makes Bellinger the new tight-end starter in New York.
In his first game as the starter, Bellinger had 5 catches on 7 targets for 45 yards. With the team on the major decline, they will be trailing a lot to end the season and in positions to throw more than not. This is the steal of the week if you are looking to add a tight end. He might not be known by many of your competitors, which gives you a huge leg up in your league.
Conclusion
To wrap things up, this is the most fun time of the year as fantasy playoffs kick off for most people. Either you are in leagues that are a two-week matchup or you are in win-or-go-home situations. Every starter that you put in your lineup, you want to have the utmost confidence. But the truth is, you will have anxiety or feel extremely nervous about everyone but this position has the opportunity to give you a huge advantage. So with that being said, pick up someone at the waiver wire just in case someone else wants him or for your own use at tight end.
