Week 7 of the NFL season delivered a lot of scoring which led to tight ends continuing to have a major impact on the fantasy football season. Scoring continues to rise in the 2024 season which means that tight ends will be in the party. There are a lot of exciting matchups this week in the league but that means fantasy owners have to be really careful about which tight ends need to sit or start. Halfway through the NFL fantasy season, tight ends have had their major impact in the season and they are definitely winning or losing games for owners.
Tight End Start’em: Week 8
Green Bay Packers Tight End Tucker Kraft
The young Packer offense has been on fire over the last couple of weeks with the majority of the team’s touchdowns coming from the arm of Jordan Love. That included a touchdown to his reliable tight end, Tucker Kraft. Kraft also had a two-touchdown game a couple of weeks ago and it proves how much of a red zone threat Kraft is. Green Bay is taking on the Jaguars whose defense has been a mess. Both Pats tight ends had solid games in London against Jacksonville so if you have Kraft on your team, this should be a start to not stress about.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers Tight End Cade Otton
Monday night was a catastrophic night for the Buccaneers as they lost Mike Evans with a hamstring injury and Chris Godwin for the year with a horrific ankle injury. But the guy who stepped up was Otton. The Bucs tight end had 8 catches for 100 yards.
This might be the easiest start of Week 8 as it seems Otton is the only pass catcher left who is not injured and who Baker Mayfield trusts. Otton has already had a solid season but with the injuries at receiver, Tampa has no choice but to force-feed their tight end. So on national tight end day, it seems like Otton could finish as a top-five tight end this week.
Tight End Sit’em: Week 8
Detroit Lions Tight End Sam LaPorta
The Lions might be the best team in the NFL and have an MVP quarterback in Jared Goff. Detroit’s offense has been incredible in 2024 as continues to put up so many points on a weekly basis. Shockingly, the one guy who hasn’t had an amazing year is LaPorta.
From a fantasy perspective, he is by far the most touchdown-reliant player on the Lions offense which means that the ceiling is quite high but the ceiling is low. LaPorta has gone two weeks in a row with a mere one reception. Detroit is taking on a Titans team that does have a good defense so this is an easy sit for week eight.
Kansas City Chiefs Tight End Travis Kelce
While Travis Kelce might be one of the most famous people in the world at the moment, that doesn’t mean that he should be in your fantasy lineup in week eight when the Chiefs take on the Raiders. Las Vegas has been a mess of an organization in 2024 but the one team that makes them play at a competitive level are the Cheifs.
Kansas City has been a below-average offensive team this year and with all of these injuries that they have suffered, people assumed Kelce would take that next step this year but hasn’t happened. Kelce hasn’t looked like himself from this past postseason and it doesn’t help that every team that plays them is making the other pass catchers beat them. Until the Chiefs offense can get back on track, I would stay away from Kelce.
