Steven Stamkos shocked everyone when he left the Tampa Bay Lightning this offseason, it was rumored per Pierre LeBrun that the Lightning had offered Stamkos an eight-year contract with a low $3 million AAV. LeBrun also noted that this deal won’t work for Stamkos and that he likely wants between $4 million to $5 million per season with that term.
Steven Stamkos ended up signing with the Nashville Predators, Stamkos signed a four-year, $32 million contract ($8 million average annual value) with the Predators.
Barry Trotz, Predators GM was very excited to add Stamkos and others like Jonathan Marchessault.
“These players see what we’re doing with our franchise. We have lots to offer, and we’re very determined to win. We’re committed to that. That’s what players want.”
“It’s huge because it’s a statement, I think, for the rest of the League that these players will come to Nashville”

Nashville Post’s thoughts on Steven Stamkos Projected Line.
The gut reaction when the Preds signed Stamkos was to pencil him in as a center, perhaps flanked by Marchessault and Luke Evangelista. That still may wind up being the case. But Stamkos has played far more wing — usually left — than center over the past several years. Per the LinesLinesLines `X’ account, Stamkos lined up 58 times at left wing last season, once at center and 20 times at right wing. Marchessault, meanwhile, lined up at right wing in all 82 games for Vegas. Going with this threesome would give the creative Novak a 40-goal scorer on each wing, which would only help his development.
Jonathan Marchessault is a key winger for Steven Stamkos, who frequently played with Nikita Kucherov who was the runner up Hart Trophy winner last season, which was won by star Colorado Avalanche Center Nathan Mackinnon, Steven Stamkos is 34 years old, so having Marchessault projected to be on his line, who put up 42 goals, 69 points in 82 games for the Las Vegas Golden Knights, is also a new member of the Nashville Predators, Marchessault played for the Lightning with Stamkos for 47 games in the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons.
Jonathan Marchessault is very excited to play with Steven Stamkos again.
“It would be an honor to play with a guy like that for sure,” Marchessault said. “I was able to play with a lot of good players in my career. Steven has definitely got to be up there. Steven was there for [16 years] and I was [in Vegas] for seven. He achieved a lot of things with the Lightning. He’s done a lot, and it’s quite impressive, the player that he is today. Hopefully we can come in and help the team. He’s definitely a game-changer, and I think Nashville should be happy to have him on their side.”
