Game Details: Sunday, May 25, 2025 @ 2:10 pm EST
Location: Daikin Park in Houston, Texas
L. Castillo (R) vs. C. Gordon (L)
Where to Watch: MLB.TV
The Houston Astros took down the Seattle Mariners in game three of the four-game series. First inning errors by the Mariners were what doomed the team. They didn’t give up any runs after the first inning, but the errors in the opening frame were the ones that mattered. Seattle has a sink-or-swim offense, and it sank today with the Houston Astros’ pitching dominating the day. Can the Astros take the series, or will the Mariners earn the series split?

Key Stats
Seattle Mariners
The Seattle Mariners and their fans are starting to worry about Julio Rodriguez this season. He’s been ice cold this series, only collecting one hit in the series. Over the past seven games, he has only four hits in 25 at-bats. Similar to the rest of the team, he has drawn nine walks, leading to him still being a factor in the game, but this strategy can only work for so long.
Right-hander Luis Castillo takes the mound in the series finale for the Mariners. In his last start against the Chicago White Sox, he pitched 7.0 innings, giving up three hits and no earned runs, while striking out five. He has had a great month of May. In four starts, he has pitched 24.0 innings, giving up 20 hits and only seven earned runs.
Houston Astros
The Houston Astros have to be excited about what they are seeing from Jose Altuve this series. He went 1 for 4 last night and is 6 for 13 in this series with a couple of home runs. If you are betting player props, Altuve is probably your best bet. This is also good news for the team as their winning coincided with his red-hot hitting.
Left-hander Colton Gordon takes the mound, looking to get the Astros the series win. He made his season debut ten days ago and seems to be still settling in. In his last start against the Tampa Bay Rays, he pitched 5.1 innings, giving up five hits and three earned runs, while striking out seven. He has given up three earned runs in both starts this season.

Prediction
One stat I have forgotten about in picking this series is the K/9 innings. The Houston Astros strike out a lot of hitters, which gets them out of some sticky situations. The Mariners swing for the fences, which leads to a lot of home runs…and a lot of strikeouts. Altuve stays hot and Houston takes the series.
