Potential Rodgers Signing is Bad for Steelers Wide Receivers: March 30, 2025

The Aaron Rodgers waiting game is still underway, and nobody is waiting for the veteran quarterback more than the Steelers. Last year was chaos for both the Steelers and Rodgers. With the Steelers struggling at QB and the famous struggling in every single way.

Will the legend, Aaron Rodgers, retire or head to the Steel City?

We know that Rodgers will make the Steelers receivers horrible based on his terrible play last year. However, at age 41, coming off an Achilles injury very safe to assume that he won’t get any better, so let’s speculate how much worse the Steeler’s wideouts will be in 2025.

Allen Lazard was wide receiver #2 on the Jets for Rodgers last season after the Jets traded for Davante Adams. His time in NY could be described in many different ways, such as a downgrade and inconsistent. Garrett Wilson, a young former first round pick and breakout superstar, also failed to live up to the hype in 2024 as a top 12 fantasy pick in most leagues.

On the Packers, Lazard was the perfect pickup for your bench or as an emergency wideout to pick up off waivers. That changed as soon as he set foot in the big apple to be qb’d by the living legend. When the supposed “Jets savior” came back from his horrible injury in 2024, Lazard’s production took an immediate downturn.

In 2022 with the Packers and Rodgers, he experienced a career year, averaging 11.7 points per game and 174.8 for the whole season, nearly hitting a thousand yards for the season. You would think with a similar role and less competition for Rodgers’ attention, he’d have a breakout season. But the recovering quarterback regressed in 2024 from his 2022 form.

Under Aaron in 2024, Lazard averaged a measly 10.5 points per game, making for only 126.0 for the whole season. Not even breaking 600 yards for the whole season last year, when he easily did in 2022. The quarterbacks’ struggles became Lazard’s struggle, something sure to repeat if Rodgers becomes a Pittsburgh Steeler this year. This time with other pass catchers involved.

Former Jets’ WR Adams Took a Hit with Rodgers

From 2020 to 2022, Davante Adams was one of the greatest receivers in both in football and fantasy football. A large part of that was playing with the greatness of prime Aaron, helping him out. Under one of the best quarterbacks in the history of sports period, he blossomed into a weekly threat for defense across the nation. His averages were beyond amazing, averaging a powerful 25.6 points per week and 358.4 points overall, career highs in both in what prove to be a phenomenal season by any and all standards lead by his 18 touchdowns that season.

Aaron and Adams continued their greatness in Green Bay, Wisconsin, with Adams getting a total fantasy score of 21.5, still putting him in the upper echelon of receivers in the league. For 2022, however, the quarterback and Adams split, and Adams’ numbers dipped to 19.7 and 15.6 points for 2022 and 2023 while in Vegas.

You’d think that with Adams and the Cal Tech legend reuniting for 2024, Adams’ numbers would return to his Packers form. That’s what people thought of both Aaron and Adams heading into 2024. They were far from the truth, as Adams, along with Rodgers, majorly regressed.

Aaron only had an average of 15.1 points per week to go along with Adams only having an average of 17.2 points per week. Better than his last season in Vegas but worse than even his first season in the Sin City. So I’m sure now you see why you should avoid the likes of DK Metcalf and George Pickens next season if the Steelers sign the future hall of famer for 2025. Nobody, especially not m,e would take away the greatness of his prime years. Father time always wins, though and sadly, it’s clear that father time is finally winning the fight against Rodgers.
