In the 2021 NFL draft, the Patriots took Oklahoma RB Rhamondre Stevenson with one of their 4th-round picks. Stevenson wasted no time in proving his worth and ever since, he has been an essential player in the Patriots offense.
Bill Belichick always liked strong, powerful RBs, with which he had plenty of success. Take for example LeGarett Blount, who undoubtedly had his best years with the Pats.
Ever since establishing himself as the team´s RB1, Stevenson has delivered both a mix of production and stable results. In this article, we´ll be reviewing his fantasy potential for the upcoming season.
Rhamondre Stevenson 2024 Outlook
Stevenson begins his 4th year in the NFL as one of the Patriot’s offence cornerstones. The Patriots, just lost Bill Belichick after an incredibly disappointing 2023 season. Are in for a bit of a transition now that Jerod Mayo is head coach, and while there are tons of questions regarding the QB position, there are no such questions about who will be running the ball.
You can expect a lot of run games for the Patriots. The running game is always used to wear down defences and establish control in the field. However, Stevenson has proven to be a strong and productive runner. While the Patriots find an identity inside the field, they´ll be looking at Stevenson to carry a big part of the offensive production.
The fact that we’ve yet to see an identity for the patriot offence and roster as a whole benefits Stevenson greatly, as what he can do is already established.
Rhamondre Stevenson Style of Play
Rhamondre Stevenson is known for:
- Powerful and versatile playing style.
- Impressive size and strength with surprising agility,
- Stevenson is great at breaking tackles and gaining YAC (yards after contact).
- Powering through defensive lines
- Catching passes out of the backfield
Rhamondre Stevenson 2022 and 2023 Production
According to the NFL Rhamondre Stevenson had a breakout year in 2022. He ran for 1,040 yards and 5 TDs in 210 attempts (avg. 5 yards/attempt). He also caught 69 passes for 421 years and 1TD during this season. It was here that he proved he could manage to carry a big workload on the field for the Patriots offense.
However, due to mismanagement and the presence of Ezekiel Elliot sharing the backfile. Stevenson took a step back during the 2023 season. He only ran for 619 yards in 156 attempts (average 4 yards/attempt) and 4 TDs. In the passing game, he caught 38 passes for 238 yards.
Due to his particular skillset, the Patriots extended Rhamondre Stevenson during the 2024 offseason with a 4-year/$36 million contract extension. This means the Patriots expect Stevenson to be a key contributor to the offence this year.
Final Thoughts
At the moment, Stevenson is poised to have a fantastic season. Due to the Patriots’ lack of an effective passing game, and the lack of competition at the RB position, Stevenson will most likely have to manage a really big workload every single week. However, his production will of course depend on their particular opponent for the week.
Our recommendation would be to draft him around the early to mid-rounds. He isn´t the most popular running back in the league, but he plays really well and due to the Patriot´s particular context, he will most likely exceed expectations. If you draft him, this will mean more fantasy points. ,
