Ray Davis 2024 Fantasy Outlook

Ray Davis

There is zero risk and a big upside to using one of your final picks on Ray Davis in fantasy football this season. He is an even better best-ball target for those still entering one of the million-dollar contests.

He will go mostly undrafted in shallow fantasy leagues and he may turn into a waiver-wire darling as the 2024 fantasy season progresses. There may be some faction within the Bills organization to protect Josh Allen and utilize their backs more in the red zone.

In Addition, Allen had 15 rushing touchdowns last season, so there is potential for negative regression. Ray Davis can also serve as the bigger back complement to James Cook. He is currently RB51 in ECR ratings and can easily outperform his ADP as part of a potent Bill’s offense.

According to PFF, Ray Davis was among the best day-three draft prospects in the 2024 draft. Davis comes in with an SEC pedigree from the University of Kentucky. Davis’ senior year at Kentucky, He was a three-down back. He had 186 carries for 1,066 yards and 29  touchdowns. He added another seven scores through the air on 29 catches. In preseason game number two versus the Steelers, Davis netted 58 total yards. In his career at Kentucky, he averaged nearly 5 yards per carry. In 2023 Murray, Harris, and Johnson averaged a combined 4.1 yards per carry.

Ray Davis Potential Goal Line Back

Davis has potential standalone value as the goal line back.  Last season Damien Harris and Latavius Murray combined for five rushing touchdowns. Ray Davis can become the beneficiary and attain that mark and Josh Allen is due for negative regression coming off his 2023 fourteen-rushing touchdown season.

There is an opportunity for Davis if he wins the number two job behind James Cook. Behind James Cook, Murray, Harris, and Ty Johnson amassed 134.3 PPR fantasy points. That was RB37 last season and with Davis’ ADP RB61, he can return massive fantasy value in 2024.

James Cook is a smaller-back who isn’t built to handle 20-plus touches a game, he is more of a 15-touch running back. Therefore, Davis could be in line for 10 carries a game including high-leverage goal-line carries.

Final Thoughts on Ray Davis

Draft Ray Davis in 2024 as one of your last picks. If you have already drafted in 10-team or 12-team leagues with a shallow bench, there is a good probability Davis went undrafted and is on your waiver wire.

Again, savvy fantasy managers make hay by grabbing players in the middle to back end of their drafts that smash ADP. Ray Davis is free in drafts, so there is zero risk in drafting him. He could end up as a lottery ticket on your bench. If he doesn’t end up working out, you can cut him and move on, he won’t cost you your fantasy season.
