Pittsburgh Steelers Defense 2024 Fantasy Outlook

Pittsburgh Steelers

Since the 1970s the Pittsburgh Steelers have been known for their great defense and have led the NFL in total defense more than any other team with 10 Super Bowl titles. Since Legendary Head Coach Chuck Noll, the Steelers have been called the Steel Curtain Defense.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are still considered one of the top defenses in the NFL. The Steelers this upcoming season are ranked 6th in CBS Fantasy Football. The Steelers still have stars TJ Watt, Cameron Heyward, Minkah Fitzpatrick, and Joey Porter Jr. Pittsburgh has also added a linebacker this off-season Patrick Queen.

Last season, the Pittsburgh Steelers were one of the best defenses in the NFL. They only allowed 19.1 points a game. This was the fewest points allowed in the NFL. In 2023, the Steelers Defense had 47 sacks, 16 interceptions, and 11 fumble recoveries.  As the 2024 season approaches the Steelers defense is projected to have 53 sacks, 14 interceptions, and 13 forced fumble recoveries.

The Pittsburgh Steelers open the NFL season in Atlanta against the Falcons and newly added quarterback Kirk Cousins. The Steelers do not have an easy schedule this season with playing the AFC West and NFC East this year along with their own division. There are a lot of top teams in all the divisions they are playing this year and this will give their defense a test this season.

In the AFC North, the Baltimore Ravens defense will be a top defense to go after in fantasy. The Cleveland Browns defense had its run and should continue as a top unit in 2024. The Cincinnati Bengals are looking for a bounceback year for their defense.

Linebacker Alex Highsmith led the Pittsburgh Steelers with two interceptions and one touchdown last season. Highsmith was Pittsburgh’s third-round pick in the 2020 draft, he played for Charlotte. T.J. Watt was also a factor in the Steelers defense last season. Watt had 19 sacks, four forced fumbles, and one interception.

Final Thoughts

The Pittsburgh Steelers defense is worth drafting in the later rounds of the draft in all fantasy football leagues. They have been a top-ranked defense for a long time in the NFL and are worth having on the roster. The Steelers should be good to draft around the 10th round in the draft or later.

The Steelers have a tough schedule this upcoming season with playing some high powered offenses such as the Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys and division rivals as well. The AFC West and NFC East will be great matchups for the Steelers this season. If their defense can stay strong and healthy they should be where they left off last season with allowing only the fewest points allowed per game.
