Pat Freiermuth is the Steelers most reliable weapon in 2024, even though George Pickens could see a breakout with Russell Wilson at quarterback, he is going to be the guy that’s going to make Wilson better than he was in Denver. Fieriermuth is going to benefit from Wilson as well because Wilson likes to target the TE position a lot and Freiermuth is one of the top tight ends in football especially when he is healthy.
Freiermuth is a player that has another level to his game especially if Russell Wilson can cook again like he did in Seattle. Russell is probably going to be the best quarterback that Freiermuth has played with since Big Ben. Let’s look at the 2023 production to see where Freiermuth is working from.
Pat Freiermuth’s 2023 Production
Freiermuth had a rough season in the black and gold as he only had 32 receptions for 308 yards and two touchdowns in 2023. That equated to 76.8 points on ESPN fantasy PPR last season. The Steelers offense was a disaster because of Matt Canada in 2023 and Frieiermuth was the biggest casualty of the incompetence manning the Steelers Offense in 2023. The only viable options in that 2023 Steelers offense in fantasy were a few breakout games of George Pickens and Najee Harris. A nine-catch, 120-yard performance vs. the Bengals in late November showed us that Freiermuth is going to keep us fans hopeful from his 2023 performance that he can bounce back in 2024.
Fantasy Pros had Freiermuth as the TE 30 last season as he averaged only 6.4 PPR points per game in 2023 after averaging over 9 points per game in both of his first two years in the Steel City. Looking at just that metric alone is showing how bad Freiermuth’s fantasy season was in 2023. Let’s look at Pat Freiermuth’s 2024 projections for the hope that fans are having with him in this year’s fantasy circles.
Pat Freiermuth’s 2024 Projections
ESPN has Freiermuth as the TE 14 in their 2024 projections with 57 receptions for 589 yards and four touchdowns. They also had the projection hinged on the quarterback play of Russell Wilson and/or Justin Fields this season, who is most likely going to be Wilson. Freiermuth is going to have more opportunities to shine with a more experienced quarterback at the helm in 2024.
Fantasy Pros has Freiermuth as the TE 13 in their ECR rankings with 147 points with 59 receptions for 614 yards and five touchdowns in their 2024 projections. We know that the Steelers don’t have the most elite wide receiver room in the league so that could make Freiermuth have the right amount of targets for a resurgence season for the black and gold.
Steelers fans will be playing a lot of Renegade this season if he is going to return to his 2022 numbers, and Steelers fans are hoping that happens with Wilson at the helm because of the arm talent he has that he can get the ball to all of his targets including Freiermuth. He has all of the talent in the world to be a top tight end in this league if the Steelers want to use his abilities as a top-level pass catcher at the tight end position.
Final Thoughts
Pat Freiermuth is going to be a strong value as a TE2 in the late rounds of fantasy drafts in 2024 especially if Russell Wilson plays like how Russell Wilson can play the game of football. I would draft him late in drafts and have no regrets unless I don’t have a stud at my tight end one or Freiermuth fails to live up to the expectations that fantasy owners are expecting from him.
