The Green Bay Packers defense entered their first season under new defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley. After 5 seasons of coaching in the collegiate ranks, Hafley is returning to the NFL. As the defensive backs coach for Tampa Bay in 2013, Hafley oversaw his DBs snag 12 out of the defense’s 21 interceptions.

According to NFL.com, Nixon has averaged 26.1 yards per return in 2023 and 28.8 yards per return in 2022. The new kickoff rules should allow the dangerous return man with even more opportunities to score this season.

According to Fantasy Pros, the Packers D/ST finished 21st last season. Not great but could sneak up into a top-10 defense. Last season, the defense lacked generating turnovers. Jeff Hafley has emphasized a need for chaos at the line of scrimmage and playing aggressively.
With the additions of Xavier McKinney and 2nd-round pick Javon Bullard, this unit has improved at the safety position. Pairing those two with Jaire Alexander and a healthy Eric Stokes will generate more than the 7 interceptions that were recorded last season.
The front seven looks to build off a good season from last year. Rashan Gary led the team with 9 sacks while Quay Walker led the team in tackles. The new 4-3 scheme will play to the strengths of Gary and Preston Smith rushing the passer.
Preston Smith doesn’t have to worry about lining up with Davante Adams, he can just get after it! Quay Walker looks to Stand out in this new scheme and lead the defense. His Pick 6 from Week One last year was just a sample of what’s in store for this season.
Green Bay Packers D/ST 2024 Fantasy Outlook
This is a young Packer’s Defense that has the chemistry and looks to make the jump in 2024. According to SBNation, the Packers D/ST is ranked at 23. This can be a great late-round steal for your fantasy team. The ceiling for this team is a top 10 D/ST and the floor would be around 15th.
Jeff Hafley will bring the juice and this unit will create more turnovers. Along with the turnovers, we could see the Packers rack up 50-55 sacks this season. The special teams unit can contribute to scoring points as well. Kesean Nixon is an All-Pro returner and it’s exciting to see what he does under the new kickoff rules. There’s a ton of potential for Nixon to take it to the house and rack up points for your D/ST. Final verdict, Low risk high reward pick.
