Olympics Tennis 3rd round: Top DFS Picks

Tennis

Tennis seems to go by really fast when one realizes it was just yesterday that the Paris 2024 Olympics were beginning and now,  we’re already 2 rounds into tennis and the start of the 3rd round is just around the corner.  As the third of six rounds begins, the competition is about to get much more intense.

For most tennis professional players, Olympic gold may even be worth more than a grand slam. Since you can only win every 4 years, taking the title is a rare achievement, whereas 4 slams can be potentially won within the year.

The 3rd round will feature some world’s best players. On the men´s side, candidates like Djokovic, Medvedev, Zverev and Alcaraz are through and will have to compete for a spot in the Quarterfinals. On the women´s side, players like Swiatek, Sakkari, Navarro, Gauff and Paolini will be competing for a spot in the 4th round. Not to mention some very interesting teams on doubles.

Without further ado, here´s a preview of our top recommendations for your tennis fantasy for the remainder of the olympics.

Novak Djokovic

Novak Djokovic might be the favourite to win the tournament. He´d be looking to crown what has been an unbelievable tennis career by winning Olympic gold for the first time. This in combination with a solid game on clay, remarkable defensive skills, sharp court coverage and a tactical mindset, make him a strong contender for the gold.

Carlos Alcaraz

Carlos Alcaraz’s play style features explosive power, relentless aggression, and dynamic shot-making. His athleticism and versatility allow him to dominate from the baseline, He has been on a big win streak this year, taking Roland Garros and Wimbledon and is widely considered a generational talent as well. However, there are some inconsistencies in his game. The real question is. Can he stay consistent and take the gold?

Alexander Zverev

Alexander Zverev is another obvious candidate to take the gold. Not only did he win gold in Tokyo 2021, but also reached the final at this year´s Roland Garros. Furthermore, Zverev´s prowess on clay courts is renowned and makes him a considerable threat to anybody.

Dark Horse 1: Stefanos Tsitsipas

Stefanos Tsitsipas name here might seem a bit of a surprise, but the truth is the Greek is worthy of a mention here because of his clay court expertise. His only tournament win this year´s was in Monte Carlo (clay) where he beat Jannik Sinner and Casper Ruud to take the title. With this in mind, it´s not entirely impossible to think he might make a run here.

Dark Horse 2: Casper Ruud

Casper Ruud would be the second dark horse. Ruud is the ultimate clay court specialist. He has reached multiple Roland Garros finals and is slowly improving his overall game. A big title is not far for him. Why not in Paris 2024?

Women

Iga Swiatek

The obvious choice to take the gold is Swiatek. She has indisputably been the best female tennis player this year. She was unbelievably consistent during the clay season, winning every major title, including Roland Garros. Without a doubt, she is the favourite to win here.

Elena Rybakina

Someone who has always given Swiatek a run for her money is Rybakina. She is a formidable and consistent player, even winning Wimbledon in 2022. It is not out of the cards to think she might make a run for the gold. Especially with Sabalenka out of the race, her chances greatly improved.

Coco Gauff

Coco Gauff is another string choice for the gold in Paris 2024. She won last year´s US Open and since then, she has improved her game on all surfaces. This improvement makes her a considerable threat and candidate for the gold.

Dark Horse 1: Danielle Collins

You might be surprised to see Collins here. However, she´s truly had a meteoric year. Winning in Miami, and Charleston and making deep runs in the slams. Given that it´s her last year as a pro, she might reach for the stars and shock the tennis world.

Dark Horse 2: Jasmine Paolini

Paolini has proven to be a consistent player and a threat. She managed to make the finals in both Roland Garros and Wimbledon and could seek to win the gold here. Keep an eye on her.

 Final Thoughts

Even though we don´t have a crystal ball, our recommendations are based on player performance, achievements and just a bit of predictive skills. If you disagree or feel there is another candidate in the cards be sure to trust your gut and add them to your fantasy team.
