The New York Jets travel to Cincinnati to take on the Bengals. The Jets are still searching for their first win of the season, grappling with an identity crisis on offense and mounting injuries to key players. On the other sideline, the Bengals are trying to build momentum after a much-needed victory, fueled by a veteran quarterback who just recently joined the team and a record-setting receiver.

Key Details

New York Jets
The biggest question mark for the winless Jets hangs over the quarterback position, which was answered only after an injury. Justin Fields was benched at halftime last week against Carolina, having completed just 6 of 12 passes for 46 yards. At the beginning of the week, Tyrone Taylor was being considered for the start. That is no longer true as Taylor will miss the game with injury.
Compounding the offensive woes are other significant injuries that could sideline two of their biggest stars. Wide receiver Garrett Wilson (knee) and All-Pro cornerback Sauce Gardner (concussion) are have been ruled out. The absence of Gardner creates a massive hole in the secondary.
Cincinnati Bengals

The Bengals have found a stabilizing force in veteran quarterback Joe Flacco. His calm demeanor has resonated throughout the locker room, providing a steady hand for an offense trying to find its rhythm. That steadiness has directly benefited the receiving corps, particularly wideout Ja’Marr Chase, who is in the middle of a historic stretch.
Last week, Chase set a franchise record with 16 catches and is now aiming to become the first Bengal ever to record three straight games with double-digit receptions. His connection with Flacco has been electric, especially against man coverage, where he torched the Steelers for eight catches and a touchdown. The Jets’ secondary, which plays man coverage at one of the highest rates in the league, will have its hands full.
Prediction
The Jets are like golf. Just when you decide you will never play the game again because you are so bad, you pull off a string of pars and birdies. Each year, the Jets give fans “just enough” to like them again. That is why I predict they will win this week. Or, at least cover the spread…and some fans will like them again.
